Not silly enough, saw a report that Man U are interested but have been told the price is ..........................

£45 million

Thats either stark staring bonkers, or a typing error.   :D

That was on the beeb rumours that wasnt it ?

He looks a decent player and two footed but a little raw at the moment. Will no doubt develop into a top player but as he is already being so hyped he will definately not go for a fee that would be in our league.
Especially from serial transfer rapists Lyon  :D

Benzema is a class act.  A real quality player.  I think he will leave Lyon in 2 - 3 years unless they get offered something silly.  This week he said Span and Italy interest him while the Premiership doesnt have the same appeal.

"Manchester United target Karim Benzema has claimed he would rather play in Spain or Italy, than England.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a confirmed fan of Benzema and his Lyon team-mate Hatem Ben Arfa.

But the 20-year-old France international has told the Spanish press that his future lies in La Liga.

"I like the Spanish and Italian leagues," he told Don Balon.

"The Premier League does not hold too much attraction to me.

"Although they have great teams and I consider that I could play there, the style of game they play does not attract me.

"I love La Liga because they play beautiful football there.

Barca liking

"As far as football is concerned, Barca are the team I prefer today because they play it on touch," he said.

"I must admit I like Real Madrid as well, even if they are more focused on defending.

"Barca also give young players the chance to play alongside stars, which helps them improve a lot.

"In Italy football is stronger and more based on tactics and it's more difficult to impose yourself, but I consider it a very good league as well."

It looks like Utd will try and get him as Ferguson seems really keen but they would have to offer Lyon a huge amount of money to get him in the summer.  I think more than £20 mil.

Hate to admit it, but realistically Benzema is already out of our league financially.

Even though he's on a reported £60 grand a week  ??? .

Not sure how long he's got left on his contract (anybody know ?) but bet my bottom dollar he'll wind it down and f'uck off on a free, picking up a fat signing on fee in the process.

I think his contract is up in the summer Woof. I am not sure how much he is on now but the reported 60k pw has been denied by his agent in the past. I hope that he will prove his fitness over the next couple of months and then settle for a low basic and a pay as you play top up contract.

He is different class to anyone else we have on the wings when fit, and as a replacement of equal ability would no doubt want a similar wage and would probably cost £10-15million on top, it might just be worth our while to give him a new contract.

Saint, Kewell will never bring his Leeds days to Liverpool. We need to let him go at the end of the season. Another contract will be another three years of paying between 30 and 60 grand a week for somebody who's always injured or inconsistent.

Let him go and bring in Ashley Young.

I have always been a big fan of a fit in form Harry, but it would not be good business for the club to renew his contract unless he can get himself 100% fit and stay there for a period of months.

I realise he will never reach the form he had at Leeds, but I still think a fit Kewell has a lot more to offer than Pennant , Benayoun or any player we could get in the £5-10million bracket. Obviously once you go above that figure the wages go up as well as the transfer fee and performance. The problem as I see it is whether Kewell will ever be fit enough to play all season. If he has put his medical problems behind him I would be delighted if we offered him another contract. He really is different class when he's fit (even now)and to make matters worse we would get nothing for him anyway.

Each to their own I suppose :)

Then from mid january to the end of last season, he was probably our best player. In Athens against Milan, he tore them apart and had a good chance to score himself. He was just starting to cement his position as the first and only right winger at the club.

Start of this season, he was showing these signs again, and then the injuries hit him. He's been out of contention for a while but his return from injury is a welcomed one by me anyway. If he can regain full fitness and get back to the form he showed at the back end of last season, then we don't need to break the bank and find a right winger. We have an outstanding one in Pennant.

Tonight against Inter, he may of only played the last 10 minutes or so, but he assisted two goals, as well as giving their full back a hard time. Fantastic to see him back in a red shirt and doing what he does best, running at people and crossing the ball for our forwards. He's our answer to any right wing problems, just needs to be given a sustained run in the side again.

My decision to not read your posts (that have surged in frequency) of late regarding the Rafa situation and our club have been vindicated by this load of rubbish.

Pennant was starting to perform towards the end of the season, but any winger with one goal to their name is poor, and if you simply apply the logic that you do to other players you would see this.

Shocking post.

spot on Leon mate. & people on here have the nerve to
critise kuyt for not scoring. :bowdown

Jimmy Case, former Liverpool right winger, was never profific but look here.
1st team games: 269
1st team goals: 46

A goal every five games or so.

Sammy Lee another former Liverpool right sided midfielder scored 19 goals in just under 300 games, having a goal ratio of 1 goal to 15 games. Still better than Mr Pennant.

Jermaine Pennant. 1 goal in every 60 games or so, can't really say that Pennant is a top winger.

Compare to that Billy Liddell. 229 goals in less that 550 games. That's the kinda goalscoring return that's expected from wingers.

So Mr Houlding, poor post mate.

why is pennant not playing?? he would offer alot more down the right hand side then kuyt similar to what babel provides, this isnt a dig at dirk i just feel pennant has come on leaps and bounds over the last year and his performances when he has played this season have been very good
if he could add 10 goals a season to his game he would be one of the best around imo

Shift this overrated alcoholic out in the summer, he’s nothing more than an average player and a waster.
