I was unconvinced when we signed him and nothing much has changed. Firstly top players who belong at top clubs don't go from top club to BIRMINGHAM. Secondly he was a signing that could have worked but hasn't, we've signed a few too many and he's another that could have proved a good signing but simply proved that £5m-£7m doesn't often buy/guarantee top quality.

I think he may well be on his way in the summer, whether we'll get the money back we paid for him is debatable.

0h how i wish never to see pennant float another useless cross to the back post or perform against really weak opposition ( and i know he came on against inter and played well) but the lad has no class no the ball, limited pace , less desire(life long fan my rusty starfish)

he is up there with sean dundee and voronin , torben pinic, brouno cheyrou and the like of players that are not good enough, and i think rafa knows it but is limited to who else can play out right, and who does such a good job on is alloy wheels after training (when dirk not doing them)

i would vote him off if it were an option

fair doos that could make the club some money if it were inter active 25 a vote to who get the bullet vote now voronin
                                                 pennant
                                                 dirk
                                      or all of the above

1st team games: 269
1st team goals: 46

A goal every five games or so.

Sammy Lee another former Liverpool right sided midfielder scored 19 goals in just under 300 games, having a goal ratio of 1 goal to 15 games. Still better than Mr Pennant.

Jermaine Pennant. 1 goal in every 60 games or so, can't really say that Pennant is a top winger.

Compare to that Billy Liddell. 229 goals in less that 550 games. That's the kinda goalscoring return that's expected from wingers.

So Mr Houlding, poor post mate.

The problem is that he rarely gets a game.  How the hell is he suppose to score goals with such limited playing time?  And maybe we are set up so that he rarely gets into good goalscoring positions.  Remember last year when he scored that screamer vs Chelsea and Rafa looked disgusted probably because Pennant chose to shot instead of passing the ball.    Look at Arsenal's Hleb you wouldn't call him a :censored: player because he rarely score too.  I still think we need a better wide player but the amount of :censored: Pennant receives on here is unfair.

He played well in Athens and scored a cracker against Chelsea (played well in that game as well).

What else has he done?

I will admit tho, he has enourmous potential and can be a super player.

I would/have and do call Hleb :censored:. I think he's a waste of space and couldn't believe it when I heard Barcelona were after him. I'd have Pennant ahead of Hleb.

4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

Nah im not having that one John i think Hleb is streets ahead of Pennant hes a fantastic player who very rarely looses the ball good tackler and puts in his fare share of assists i dont think Pennant is in the same class as him but thats just my opinion but if it came down to it id have to choose Kleb all day long over Pennant

We'll have to disagree AGAIN then nanny  :D

Maybe Hleb contributes a bit more, but for an out and out winger, I'd have Pennant. Aslo I put Hleb in the Lampard catergory...overrated by the london press. I've never seen Hleb do anything that's made me think "yes he is a world star."

It's probably unfair on both Pennant and Hleb to compare them as they play in different positions for their clubs. Pennant has been used as a winger, Hleb either plays off Adebeyor or as a drifting right sided mid. But whenever I see Hleb I think he's the weak part of the Arsenal squad.

You've lost all credibility for me there with that single post mate. I like Pennant, he's a decent player and on his day he's a very good player. However, he's probably playing a little above his level at LFC and consistency has been a problem for him.

How you can claim him to be a better player than Hleb is completely beyond me. Hleb isn't a winger but he's an excellent player. He's lighting quick, an EXCELLENT passer of the ball, is technically superb, has quick feet, a good first touch (and second) and he chips in with a few goals. I'd swap him for Pennant and Kewell plus i'd be tempted to throw in Bennayoun as well.

Obviously it's just me who sees nothing in Hleb. I just don't see anything by him that's impressive.

People tried to credit him with an assist against us, but truth is this...he had three chances to play the ball through for Fabregas but he decided not to, and when it did fall for Fabregas it was a deflection of Mascheranho's shin. Not a pass by Hleb.

Why does Hleb never pull his socks up?

Is it some kind of sock-related protest?

Watch him closely the next couple of times you see Arsenal play mate. The guy is quality. Typical Wenger player - Very quick (with his feet and head) and technically superb.
