Torres ideal partner? - 10-12mill tops

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby LittleHobo » Sun Jan 20, 2008 4:11 pm

the dream partnerships would be

ibrahimovic - torres

aguero - torres

berbatov - torres

tevez - torres

rooney - torres

all will never happen sadly

so at the price range the best would be

keane - torres

gudjohnsen - torres

ashton - torres

Well the thing is I dont think we can afford to go foreign again unless we are spening a lot of dosh on a proven player liek we did with Torres. Spending anything less would be a gamble imo. We need someone proven. I know hes had his fair amount of injuries but so did Robbie and he scored some important goals on his return to the club. I also think price wise Newcastle would not want much for him, certainly no where near the 17Mil they paid for him.

I think he's worth a lot more to Newcastle (potentially) if they keep him, i mean how much could they get for him now? 7-8 mill? Can't see them taking a 10 mill drop in such a short space of time. Only City would be crazy enough to risk it. Great Great player but his body is spent i'm afraid, can you see him managing to play a full season again in his career? I can't. The club (Evans and Houllier) should probably take some blame for the problems he is suffering, he was massiveley overplayed at a such a young age.

Also, Torres and Owen would be stepping on eachother's toes in the same team, both play on the shoulder, look to attack space, similar movements off the ball etc. And then Michael would be out with injured toes.

Well realistically we're not gonna get another striker or two until the summer at least, and in January prices are nornally inflated so it's best to wait to the summer. It's clear we're not gonna win the League, so it's best not to panic buy and then in the summer we can re-group.

Ashton would be a good buy imo. He'd be a bit of a risk but he's an ideal partner for Torres. If Sunderland get relegated too, what about Jones who plays for them? He'd be avaliable at a cut-down price and he's certainly got the potential to be a good player, but again, he'd be a risk.

I'm sure like most people i'd have Villa here in a stone throw as him and Torres would be a GREAT partnership, but whether thta happens, well, we'll have to wait and see.

anelka, as good as he is.....just don't trust him. keane is trustworthy, but has the yids in his heart now and i don't think he would leave them, he would be very good in our team tho i reckon because he is creative and rafa likes those sort of players.
Ashton is another good prospect but the only chance you'd take with him is the injury problems he has had. every player has their problems, and the one common problem with all 3 of those players is the amount of money that would be asked for them.#

we create the chances, i think crouch is the man to look to.

Then half or more here might be on crack as well ...  :D  .
Except for berbatov , the others players i mentioned could leave for a fee between 10 -15 , i personally think its possible , even more posibble next summer.

Controversially Babel or Crouch, I don't think they've been given a proper run.

Otherwise a creayive second striker, preferably left sided (or surely not Raul)

In my view, Robbie Keane is not top quality. I think he's better than what we have other than Torres, but I just think we could do better in terms of quality, touch on the ball, control and pace etc. He's just below the level we require - given the strength of the Manc's, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Agree with you, but that's in an ideal world. I don't personally believe the club will bring in another £20mill+ player next season (regardless of the ownership) so i expect then manager will have to make do with a smaller budget. Now Tevez and Torres would have been magnificent, two TOP TOP quality frontmen playing together and their styles would have complimented eachother perfectly but we're not gonna be able to bring in someone like that. I don't know that Torres partner has to be his EQUAL? But there's no doubt he needs someone who can profit from all the extra attention he gets from the opposition back four, someone to score a few goals and someone who offers enough quality to lead the line when Torres is rested/rotated. keane fits that profile for me. Intelligent player who could make it work with Torres or Crouch. It does strike me that if a player (particularly a British one) spends a few years doing well for the likes of Villa, Spurs, Blackburn etc they get a little bit type-cast in the eyes of LFC fans ie. "He's not Liverpool quality, he might be able to do it for Spurs but this is Liverpool", "This is a different level altogether, he'd have been playing for one of the big four years ago if he was up to it" etc

I know what you mean, but I really think the bar has been raised and we need something special, someone with a bit more quality on the ball.

Another player to ponder might be Elano.

I think Elano might be just what we are looking for , unfortunately I can't see Man City selling him, maybe we could do a swop for him and Michael Johnson. Maybe Petrov as well if Kewell goes to Fulham  :D

To people asking about Babel, there was an interview with Rafa where he was asked would be play Babel up front, and he replied no he's gonna use him as a left winger for the time being. I can't see the logic why tbh, maybe because we don't have anyone else for the left wing? Kewell is past it, and Riise just isn't good enough.
