Torres ideal partner? - 10-12mill tops

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

dean ashton was a good call but in my opinion cause of his injuries he hasnt really proved himself at the highest level for long enough......no doubts though he will be a great player

anelka and torres? not sure they compliment each other

keane and torres yes.

defoe and torres woundnt compliment.

gudjohnson and torres? maybe

diego would cost considerably more than 12 million me thinks

kenwin jones looks a good player but he could be a one season wonder

At the kind of price mentioned i'd say Keane, I dont know or follow many footballers outside the UK so wouldnt really no. But Robbie Keane would be ideal, he can drop in the hole, link up, play in players like Torres and has an eye for goal to.

Or Tevez but thats not going to happen.

I dont think Anelka and Torres would nessecerily work, their simiar players who'd probably take up similar positions.

In my view, Robbie Keane is not top quality. I think he's better than what we have other than Torres, but I just think we could do better in terms of quality, touch on the ball, control and pace etc. He's just below the level we require - given the strength of the Manc's, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Agree with you, but that's in an ideal world. I don't personally believe the club will bring in another £20mill+ player next season (regardless of the ownership) so i expect then manager will have to make do with a smaller budget. Now Tevez and Torres would have been magnificent, two TOP TOP quality frontmen playing together and their styles would have complimented eachother perfectly but we're not gonna be able to bring in someone like that. I don't know that Torres partner has to be his EQUAL? But there's no doubt he needs someone who can profit from all the extra attention he gets from the opposition back four, someone to score a few goals and someone who offers enough quality to lead the line when Torres is rested/rotated. keane fits that profile for me. Intelligent player who could make it work with Torres or Crouch. It does strike me that if a player (particularly a British one) spends a few years doing well for the likes of Villa, Spurs, Blackburn etc they get a little bit type-cast in the eyes of LFC fans ie. "He's not Liverpool quality, he might be able to do it for Spurs but this is Liverpool", "This is a different level altogether, he'd have been playing for one of the big four years ago if he was up to it" etc

Dean Ashton for me, wouldn't cost too much but the problem would be keeping him injury free ???

Given the price bracket you've set Scott (£10-12 miil) I'd stick with Crouch to partner Torres. Would love to see Rafa start with (and stick with) that partnership for at least 6 games on the bounce. We could be pleasantly surprised.

I don't think Rafa would buy him mate, for the same reasons he doesn't like to play Crouch with Torres. Ashton wopuld occupy similar space to Crouch ie. playing through the middle, fairly high up the pitch, showing feet, attacking the box etc. Rafa likes his 2nd striker to play (as he always puts it) "between the lines".

I think Stu has started some sort of Dean Ashton fan club here, i won't dare tell him! Ashton's a bloody sick-note! He'll be out injured again soon, wait and see.

I think Javier Salviola would be a really good buy. Real Madrid are willing to listen to offers and I think the man would be well suiteed to the second striker role. He's about 27 so could babel the time he needs to "grow" into the prem, he's pacey and can score goals so why not. I think he could be a good fit has never really been given a fair shout in spain being sold and loaned left right and centre( just like juan roman riquelme) and I think he would do well at liverpool.

Besides him aguerro would be great such an impressive talent but he is one of those players destined for the halls of barcelona or madrid IMO and would just cost and arm and a leg.

Afonso Alves has been doing well in germany and we have been linked with him before I think the guy could do the business and he would def cost 10 - 12 mill.

Rafael Van der Vaart has always been one of my favourite players and someone who should be playing in the top clubs in europe he is a CF in my opinion and I beleive 12 million might just do it.

But I think salviola does it for me and Madrid are looking to sell.

My ideal choice Would be Berbatov I think him and Torres would be fantastic. If he comes in the 10-12 million barrier i doubt it but still worth a shout

Great player, who I would absolutely love to see at Liverpool. No chance though, I reckon. Weren't the press bandying around figures around 30-35 millions for him when he was rumoured on his way to the mancs (hope to God he doesn't end up there)?

Ramos was quoted saying no less than 15 million

Didn't he say that they could/would only entertain a ridiculous offer for the player? I reckon it would take £20-25 mill to get Berbatov. Money we are unlikely to have.
