we have already discussed this, hamman was introduced to the game as a result of the injury to finnan, as leon says maybe he would have been introduced anyway, but the fact that he had to be introduced to basically save us shows that the manager got the formation wrong to start with. if he was selected from the start then maybe we wouldn't have been 3 down at half time.

swings and roundabouts with this one guys, if as you say he was tactically brilliant bringing hamman on then i would say he was tactically inept for not fielding him to start with.

I'm sure they know more about it, being based so close to Anfield...

says the man in nottingham, when did that become a suburb of liverpool. Oh not only that but never even goes the game even though its less than a two hour drive.

Mascherano ?

It would be nice to know whats happening with Mascherano. I read somewhere that he's after a new contract, but can sign a pre contract with another club at Christmas if we can't agree one. We need to get this sorted, hopefully quickly.

to be honest mate s@int i get the impression at the moment that as a club things like this are not important and if a player leaves we will just replace him.

this is the opinion i get of benitez, i think he shows the players no respect and does really just treat them like employees rather than quality footballers

I must admit I was less than impressed with his treatment of Riise. He tried to shunt him off in the summer, even though Riise was saying he wanted to sign a new contract, and the rumour is he's trying to sell him to Villa again now.

I may be in a minority of one but I still think Riise is a great squad player and his adaptabilty has come in handy on more than one occasion. I realise he hasn't been at his best for a while, but hes not the only one is he! He always works hard for the team and while not the most skillful of left midfielders always makes the defender work for his money.

No player is bigger then the club, and many a better player than Mascherano has been replaced.

He shows them no respect ?

Benitez is the fuc.king manger, he is the boss not Gerrard or MAscherano.

They are just employees, of the club.

Should he be nice to them in case he hurts their feelings ?

Shocking piece of thinking there peewee mate.

no manager is bigger than the club either mate. but i think you miss the gist of my post, there is no harm in making a player feel wanted and important rather than just treat them as an asset.

there is nothing wrong with praising a player if he has a good game rather than go down the old 'the team performed well' route. i don't understand the lack of willingness to give praise where it is due

I agree with the above quotes Leon but there is more to being a manager than just picking the team. I read somewhere (Gerrards book?) that Riise is one of those players who doesn't have much confidence at the best of times, I don't think letting him know he is probably surplus to requirements will have done much for his confidence or his game.

Players need to feel they are wanted if they are to give of their best, I sometimes wonder if Rafa needs an assistant to get the warm and cuddly part over to the players. As you may remember from my "does rafa really like gerrard " thread I have had these doubts for a while. He seems to let things drift along a bit more than I would like, but then again it could be super Rick that can't get his finger out.

I know where your coming from Peewee, but dare not openly agree with you.

Leon will probably get knarked, as he's after my understanding and unconditional love. :D

Rafa sould only respect the players who are respecting the club, and there aint meany of them at the moment judging by performances. its up to the players to dig deep, starting with everton.

I think everyone is missing the point! :D

They are playing for Liverpool Football Club where 100% is expected every time...not Aston Villa or Reading where players get a pat on the back for a draw!

Players can go out and put on a mediocre performance and nothing is said...when they go out and play like they are expected to and are capable of i dont think they should get any special praise...that is what they are meant to be doing!

As for people saying Benitez is'nt motivating them..Sorry that doesnt wash...

Playing for LFC and getting to run out at Anfield every 2 weeks combined with inner passion for the club and wanting to win should be motivation enough for any footballer on the books!
If they cannot use this to motivate themselves then it reflects more on players mentality and attitude, more so than a lack of competence on the managers part!
