Liverpool are moving for Real Madrid wing-back Cicinho.
Rome sources say Liverpool are willing to cough up £7 million for the Brazil international and also hand him an improvement on his Real wages with a £2 million-a-year contract offer.

Roma have been locked in talks with Real for some weeks for Cicinho, but cannot compete with Liverpool's spending power.

He is a very good player, but not very defencive minded, i think we need a more defencive full back than an attacking one to be honest

I thought one of the bigger critizisms of Finnan was that he does not get forward enough.

Finnan has been bombing forward more in pre season  :buttrock

The fact that Sami hasn't moved on suggests that Rafa is happy to have him in the squad for at least another season so he may still be mulling over a move for someone like Mancini, the Robben link is total bollox as I think I remember hearing he'd agreed terms with Real and is just waiting for them and the Chavs to agree a deal (but that was a couple of weeks ago).

Theres deffo one more deal out there for us though, I can feel it in me waters I tells ya! :D

As far as I know Everton have now signed Baines, think we've missed out there....and I believe he's a Liverpool fan !!

You taking the peeesh ?

He is a blue and everyone knows that.

Someone should have told him then...

Baines 442 interview

Leighton Baines
Wigan Athletic left-back, born in Liverpool 11 December 1984

Nickname Plain old Bainsey. We've all got boring nicknames, except The Duke [Nathan Ellington].

As a boy I supported... Liverpool. As a local lad I used to watch from The Kop when Robbie Fowler was making his name. I started out at Liverpool's Centre of Excellence and although it was disappointing when nothing came of it, I was lucky that both Wigan and Wolves wanted to sign me.

Thank you Mr Bammo

Why is it stated in all papers that he was a blue as a kid then ?
Its been said that he signed for Everton and not Newcastle who offered him far higher wages because of the fact that he was a boyhood fan.

FROM THE BBC WEBSITE

Everton capture Baines from Wigan

Baines was on international duty with the Under-21s this summer
Everton have completed the signing of Leighton Baines from Wigan for an fee that could be worth £6m.
The 22-year-old left-back has signed a five-year deal with the Merseysiders after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical on Monday.

The Kirkby-born defender is Everton's third signing of the summer, following Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar.

Baines, who turned down a move to Sunderland, is doubtful for the start of the season with a hamstring injury.

606: DEBATE
Finally, I thought we were going to mess that one up, it was taking so long.

D
Everton initially saw a bid of about £4m rejected by Wigan, but the two clubs have now come to an agreement over the price.

The Toffees will pay an initial £5m but the deal could cost them another £1m in potential add-ons.

He is a lifelong Everton supporter and was at Goodison Park last Tuesday when they played Werder Bremen.

The defender sat alongside Everton striker James Vaughan in the directors' box, fuelling speculation that a move was imminent.

Baines, who will wear the number three shirt, told the club's website: "I am very happy now it is all done and I am looking forward to getting on with it.

"I think people knew this was the place I wanted to come and I am glad now that it is all done.

"I am a local lad and all my family support Everton so it's good to be here at last."

He has done a fantastic job for this club after coming through the system

Wigan boss Chris Hutchings
Baines made his debut for Wigan in 2002 and gone on to play over 150 times for the club.

He has 16 caps for the England Under-21 side and started every game at the European U21 Championship finals in Holland this summer.

Wigan agreed a £6m deal with Sunderland, but Baines decided to reject a move after holding talks with the Black Cats.

Sunderland manager Roy Keane admitted at the time that Baines was keen on a move to Everton.

Keane said: "Football is a small world and you hear things through the grapevine.

"I just got the impression that Leighton had his heart set on a move to Everton. I don't blame him for that.

"When I left Manchester United, it didn't matter which team came in for me, I was always going to go to Celtic."

Baines leaves Wigan with Latics boss Chris Hutchings's blessing.

"He has done a fantastic job for this club after coming through the system," said Hutchings.

"He was brought up here and knows a lot of people but sometimes you need to make a change in your life."

Carson to go to Villa if Itandje signs
Posted on August 9th, 2007 by Jim Boardman
Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson looks set at the eleventh hour to have his wish granted and will be allowed to spend another season on-loan elsewhere in the Premiership. Carson spent last season on loan at Charlton, winning their player-of-the-season award and finding himself moving up the England pecking order as a result. Rafa Benítez was unwilling initially to allow him to spend this season out on loan, wanting him as his second-choice keeper, but is now believed to have relented, as long as his move for a replacement is successful.

That replacement is Charles Itandje of French side Lens, who was seen at Anfield yesterday. Lens aren’t expecting a massive fee for the 24-year-old but Rafa wants him signed by tonight’s 11pm deadline for new signings for the Champions League qualifiers. Liverpool play the first leg of their qualifier against Toulouse next week.

21-year-old Carson would then be allowed to move on loan to Aston Villa, who will be delighted to secure the services of a player many feel will be challenging Paul Robinson for the role of first-choice England keeper by the end of the season. Carson was allowed out on loan last season because Rafa Benítez was happy to use Jerzy Dudek as back-up to Pepe Reina, but the Pole was released in the summer at the end of his contract and joined Real Madrid.

Manchester City were also said to be looking at signing Scott Carson, but it seems former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson has now missed out. Liverpool are reluctant to actually sell Carson, and would expect a massive fee in light of recent fees paid in the league for goalkeepers.

Itandje has also been linked with Manchester United this week, but failing a last-minute hijack of the deal he should be a Red by the end of the day. Carson would not be allowed to play for Villa against Liverpool this weekend - loaned players cannot face their own clubs.

Villa agree to take Carson on season's loan

Stuart James
Thursday August 9, 2007
The Guardian

Scott Carson has agreed in principle to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan although the move will be delayed for a fortnight if Liverpool fail to sign a replacement for their second-choice goalkeeper today.
That deadline is necessary because Rafael Benítez has until the close of play to register players for Wednesday's Champions League qualifier against Toulouse, raising the possibility that Carson could be forced to remain at Anfield for two more weeks.

Liverpool and Villa are both optimistic that will not be necessary, with Benítez understood to have identified back-up for Pepe Reina, the club's first-choice goalkeeper. Should the Liverpool manager be in a position to secure that signing today, Carson will join Villa immediately. If, on the other hand, Benítez's plans fall through, he will have no alternative but to hold on to Carson, with the Liverpool manager not willing to consider risking the 21-year-old third-choice, David Martin.
Any delay would be frustrating for Villa although it will not impact significantly on their plans for the opening weeks of this season. Villa entertain Liverpool on Saturday, a fixture which Carson, under Premier League rules, would not be eligible for as loan players are prevented from appearing against their host club. Furthermore, Villa's midweek match against Blackburn Rovers has been postponed, because of Uefa Cup commitments for Blackburn, meaning that possible delay in Carson's arrival could make little difference.

Either way, Villa can at least take satisfaction from completing a deal that looked highly unlikely earlier in the summer when Benitez was adamant that Carson would be remaining at the club to challenge Reina. The Liverpool manager appears to have reneged on that stance after the player made clear his dissatisfaction at starting the season on the sidelines. Carson is believed to have felt that his England place at the Euro 2008 finals would have been at risk if he stayed at Anfield.

Instead Villa offers the chance to play regularly, as he did during a similar loan spell with Charlton Athletic last season, while pressing his claims to challenge Paul Robinson for the England No1 position. Carson's arrival will come as a significant boost to Martin O'Neill after the Villa manager failed to gazump Sunderland's bid for Craig Gordon. Manchester City had also pursued Carson but, unlike Villa, they refused to pay a loan fee for the 21-year-old.

Carson has made nine appearances for Liverpool since joining from Leeds United in January 2005.

1. Liverpool have bid £8 million for Cicinho. But, Roma have bid £1.5 million for a season long loan with the option to buy at the end. Cicinho has already stated that He would rather play in Italy.

2. Liverpool target Samir Nasri from Marseille is on the point of signing for Inter. It was ruomoured that Liverpool had first refusal as part of the deal that took Djibril to France. If this is true expect Rafa to make a bid before the season starts. The price looks to be 15– £17 million.

3. Porto's Ricardo Quaresma has been offered to Real Madrid. The deal will only go through if the Robben one fails. It seems that Porto have an asking price and if anyone meets it they will let the player go. The figure is 17– £20 million.

4) Former Liverpool target Fabricio Coloccini is signing for Aston Villa in the next week. The Argentina defender could leave Deportivo who cannot afford to keep the player on with his £45k wages.

5) Lawrie Sanchez is ready to go all out to land Liverpool's Sami Hyypia.

The Fulham boss sees the Finland centre-back as a key part of his new plans at Craven Cottage.

Hyypia, 33, lost his first-team place to Daniel Agger, although Liverpool do not boast experienced cover.
West Ham are monitoring developments while Wigan and Newcastle have had ambitious bids to prise powerful Hyypia away from Merseyside turned down.

6) Gabriel Heinze says that he still wants to move to Liverpool, even after getting shouted at by Sir Alex Ferguson for a few hours according to www.carling.com

as for Heinze, from www.carling.com.....

''Speaking after meeting with Ferguson, Heinze said: "I've spoken with the coach and I have insisted that my wish is to leave the club if a big offer appears on the table. Today the only such offer is from Liverpool and it is this that is causing the problem. Earlier in the summer I received a promise from United that I could leave if the deal was good for both parties and at the moment there is an offer from Liverpool. The coach is serious about this and I understand his view. But I am serious, too. My lawyers are studying the situation and I'm going to wait for a few days now to get a full report from them. All I want now is a swift solution to this saga. I've fulfilled my duties by returning for training and I will now carry on behaving like a professional. I will keep on coming to training and will see what happens. I have a muscle injury in my leg but it is only minor and will not keep me out for long. People keep saying that there's an offer for me from Juventus but I know nothing about it. Liverpool is the only offer so far. I don't want to spend time at the club just waiting and not playing as I don't think that is in the best interests of the club or myself."

Lyon to rival Reds in bid to grab Gab
Lyon could be about to launch a late bid to snatch Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze from under the nose of Liverpool.

http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,1776_2658911,00.html

The French champions were linked with the former PSG man earlier in the summer, but may mount a bid after Cris suffered a serious knee injury in their Ligue 1 opener against Toulouse on Saturday, according to L'Equipe.

The Brazilian defender was carried off on a stretcher during the surprise 1-0 defeat and is due to undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

But in the meantime Lyon boss Alain Perrin is said to be a big admirer of Heinze, who is desperate to leave Old Trafford and is a target for Liverpool.

With United manager Sir Alex Ferguson having underlined he does not want to let the Argentina international join one their arch rivals, the case will be heard by a Premier League arbitration panel next week.

The season may have started, but still the transfer rumours abound.

Jose Mourinho will make a £27million swoop to bring Ricardo Quaresma to Chelsea - as soon as Arjen Robben joins Real Madrid.  There have also been mutterings that Martin Jol may be interested in the Portuguese winger (various), and of course Liverpool were one of the first to show an interest in the 23-year old Porto star earlier in the summer (The Times).

It is very doubtful that anyone but Chelsea could stump up that kind of cash, especially when you consider how much both Jol and Rafa Benitez have already splashed out in recent weeks. Mourinho has been pretty quiet on the transfer front and his hopes of signing Daniel Alves seem to be ongoing saga of epic proportions.
Given Tottenham’s poor showing against Sunderland and the lack of creativity in a midfield that is missing injured winger Aaron Lennon greatly, I am sure the gruff Dutchman would love Quaresma but it seems highly unlikely that deal will go through. Liverpool did not exactly set the world alight in their win at Aston Villa and once again had to count on captain marvellous Stevie G to steer them to victory. Rafa has enough quality in his midfield locker to not have to consider such a costly purchase.
