Spurs will not finish above Arsenal.  Arsenal still have more quality in there side than spurs.  Van persie will be a superstar this season!!

Stopping rotation is the first thing, the next is to keep the ball more, I am fed up of seeing Riise throw the ball as far as he can from throw ins, then it is just 50/50 whether we keep the ball. just throw it short to an Lfc player.

The new signings must produce from the start, every season we have 3 or 4 new players so you can't say that we can't win in their first season,

Rafa must show more faith in his players and let them go for the throat against the non top 4 teams - we should expect to beat them every time and go for it the way Ferguson does.

he may not win us the league but he can go some way to help us not lose it. riisse is no left back, the sooner people realise this the better. Go back and watch the Arsenal 3-1 drubbing, all they did was immediatley take the ball/play to riise, play him in midfield in front of hienze in away games and we may well see a differnce come May. Remember troare whatever his name was? nuff said.  ps changin a throw-in isnt gonna win us the league. There! we can all do it.

My throw in point was about the principle of keeping posession, under GH and now Rafa, too much emphasis is on the long ball to a big man (Heskey, Crouch). I know Chelsea get results with this but Manure have won 9 leagues in 14 years by playing good football, and we dominated before that playing good football.

If a team is to win the league a manager needs to believe that his players are best with the ball, not just booting it up and looking for knock ons.

Alonso really needs to produce this year after two poor seasons (compared to his first one).

Why does everyone think Van Persie is going to be the business this year, it not as if he hasnt been around before, he is not a new signing for them and I cant see him scoring 15 Prem goals this season

I cant believe people were critising macca over his coments, the daily mirriror(manc paper) did twist his words just a touch. He was only giving a very honest opinion and also trying to take the pressure of Liverpool in doing so.however he did say he thought chelsea would win it and this is only because he could nether say man u would win it which is a good statement,if you noticed alex (nob ed) fergie mentioned teams he thought would be challenging in an article last week and he named the top 4 from last year EXCEPT LIVERPOOL  his hatred for liverpool is there for all to see and this is still due to albiet he has been a very good manager he is so very jeolous of liverpools history and success and in europe in particulor.Things do swing in roundabouts you look at all across europe and the main teams do always come back to have thier glory,so just watch out it could be the mighty reds turn once again!!!!!!!!!! :D

mcmanaman just wants to be the new lawrenson....who can prove they are not biased to us the most??

oh and spurs do have a good team, but they have not much depth in their squad, so if they go on another UEFA run i think they will find it hard to top Arsenal, if not well you never know? could go to the last matc hlike a couple of seasons ago...
and Van Persie has always been great in flashes, his consistancy has always been the problem, and his hot head....if he steps up and takes responsibility after Henry leaving is something no-one can predict just yet, great goal against inter or not...

A lot of assumptions and shots in the dark on this thread; some even stating things to be fact, like "Spurs will finish above Arsenal this season." Codswallop! Let's just wait until January at least for those kind of remarks, and that includes Macca's, even though he didn't really slate us, but some optimism would be appreciated, or at least expected from a former great player.

maca has done nothing wrong here except to say that in his opinion 20 odd points may be a bit to much to make up in one season, a view shared by many others he did not say he didn't want us to win, I'm sure he does. but too many people are to quick to criticize a once great player for us. Saying that though last time he was in my cab he never tipped MINGEBAG lol

i think in terms of strikes spurs have the best mix in the premiership, however.........

spurs real problem lies in midfield

not enough quality, no decent left sided mid

the centre is poor, jemaine jenas isnt good enough to be in a top 4 side

zakora is ok and tom huddlestone is still young

How much have Liverpool made through sales of players? I would check but I cant be bothered....

Like everyone says, nothing Macca says isn't true, and for anyone to slate him over some typically sensationlist "journalism" is just ridiculous. The fact is he is one of our better players of the last 20 years and a player of his calibre scaring the bejesus out of defences is exactly what we need now.
I agree with some posts in here that say we need to release the shackles a bit, playing defensively can affect players confidence, the squad we have now clearly has the ability to mount a serious challenge but they need to be allowed to play more, get on a roll and get some momentum.
I don't think Man Utd had a much better squad than us last season but Fergie gets em playing from the off.....they won the league on attitude, confidence and momentum. They had luck with injuries but they just did their thing week in week out.
And that's really the point, they did THEIR thing, they didn't set up different for every opposition, we change our team depending on who we're playing, it's like we give teams too much respect. I agree in Champions League Football with away games abroad and top notch oppostion you have to adjust tactics but in the league, especially at home it should be us picking our best eleven and playing OUR OWN GAME....we should be saying to the likes of Bolton, Spurs and Villa "Come on, do your worst, you don't have a hope!!"
I think we are not far off and I do expect us to challenge far later into the race this season but only time and a lot of luck will see us win it, it could happen though.
Oh and as for Spurs, I do think they have improved and I do think they will raise their game and possibly take some points off the top four thereby influencing the final placings of those top four but I think fifth might be the best they will do.
And regards to the comments re van Persie.....he will be good this year, he has been nurtured and held back and still shown real class, this year he is the man for Wenger and I predict a healthy haul well in excess of 15 goals this term.

McManaman is IMO correct.

I don't expect us to win the Premiership either.

The fixture list was also very generous to man utd, we had a stinker of a list as well as internationals, if they had the list we had they would have had as much as a bad start as we did. We far behind last season because many of our player were knackered and that was at the start of the season.

We should have slaughtered Sheffield United in our first game no excuses.

I personally feel Spurs can finish above Arsenal, simplly because I don't see where the goals are coming from for Arsenal. Van Persie, Adebyer and Eduardo, aren't going to compencate Henry's goals. Henry who would bang in 25 plus goals year in year out, the three I've listed would be lucky to get 20 between them. Spurs on the other hand now have 4 strikers who if they all chip in with 10 and 40 goals as well as the ones coming in from other players. Spurs have a good side, with a good manager, I think they could do well this year.

Macca was wrong, Liverpool WILL win the league this year. Have a little faith and stop believing your heads :D
1) You'll Never Walk Alone
2) pass and move is the Liverpool groove
3) FIRST WILL ALWAYS BE FIRST AND SECOND WILL ALWAYS BE NOTHING.
4) If Torres has scored 60 league goals for Liverpool by the start of the 2011/12 season, I'll say he's better than Owen.

yeah its just another excuse, people need to stop making excuses for our form and where we finished last season.

world cup, new players, fixture list etc etc etc, the fact is we finished where we did because our manager does not even know what our best team is, because he chooses to worry about the likes of bolton rather than let them worry about us, because he shackles the players, because he persists with kuyt, becaus we dont have a goalscorer.

anyway he has had 3 seasons now, lets hope he has finally learnt that we have to play attacking football with a steady team in order to perform well in the premier league.

i have said it before that his mind is on europe because he is not english, my mind is on the premier league. i hope no he realises the league is important
