Not too exotic but Munich for the Octoberfest. The Germans (although they consider themselves bavarian, not german) are actually a great laugh, really friendly, everybody drinking litres of beer but no violence. a great buzz and was surprised at how friendly they are, only about a quarter of people were tourists so you get a good local feel.
