1. that Charlton was relegated with him playing the whole season. not just his fault I know but still.
2. I'm convinced his price tag is much closer to 15m than 10m.
3. hard to see if a div. 2 player will upgrade our team that much and worth such a price tag.

1. I don't think anyone could blame him for Charlton getting relegated. Their defence was poor, which made Carson look such a saviour, hence their player of the season, and they were in turmoil under Les Reed.

2. Yep, maybe £15m more than £10m, but if we were to go for him then it's a case of unsettling him, making him press for a move and then playing hardball with their board.

3. See point 1 really.

I'm not getting excited about the prospect of signing Bent, but I wouldn't write him off in the same way I would Forlan. This close season is already doing my head in. It's like a :censored: penalty shootout.

Looks like Bent is going West Ham.  They will pay silly money.

Hammers Win Bent Race?

West Ham are set to beat Liverpool and Tottenham to the signing of Darren Bent, according to reports in England.

The Daily Star claims the Hammers have offered the player £80,000 a week, with Charlton receiving £15 million plus Marlon Harewood and Hayden Mullins in return for the England star.

The move would see Alan Curbishley reunite with the striker as the pair were together when the tactician was in charge of Charlton.

Ipswich also stand to gain from the deal. Charlton signed Bent from the Tractor Boys two years ago and they will receive around £2.5 million from a sell-on clause in his contract./end

Well, if that's what WH has paid then gl to them.
Just amazing price for a player who has had 1 very good season in the PL.

Well it can't be that he doesn't fancy the cash and fancies staying at Charlton. He must think he's got a chance of going somewhere better. My old man reckons he's Tottenham bound but maybe it's us. Jeez I hope not for 18 million, he's a good player but not that good FFS.

At 17 squillion squid and 70K a week, West Ham are welcome to him.

He can buy an Aston Martin with Lucas Neill.

I do hope he is Spurs bound cause Charlton will only sell him at 16m+, which is what they want, or they won't sell him.
70k+ in wages and 18 million.

Don't know if to laugh or cry....

I hope we aren't that stupid and cough up that amount.

When West Ham can shell out that sort of money for a decent premeriship striker (no more) then the transfer market in England has offcially gone mad. If Bent is worth 17 million then god help us all.

Too much money in the game and this new TV deal is only going to make it worse. Chelsea haven't helped things either.

Football as we know it is dying a slow death.

Nope, not unless he comes for free and is willing to spend most of his time in the reserves, not even on the bench!
