In the Echo there were surposed to be Liverpool scouts at the Zaragoza match to watch Milto i watched that game and was very inpressed with him a mix between Drogba and Berbertov.
I would be pleased if we could get him and owen for the cheap. That litle and large combo could work nicely.

Liverpool co-owner George Gillett insists there has been no fall-out with Rafa Benitez over transfer funds.

However, the American tycoon says the club will resist "spending like a drunken sailor" this summer.

Rumours abounded of millions being made available to the Reds boss following the takeover by Gillett and Tom Hicks.

Samuel Eto'o and David Villa were mooted as possible transfer targets, but with little movement so far this summer it has been suggested that financial restrictions have forced Benitez to lower his sights.

I reckon this tells us what we need to know. There will not be any big names this summer.  :glare:

Sold down the river? lied to? I feel cheated.  :no

If I'm honest I'd agree with Lee, they promissed the world and haven't delivered f.*ck all yet, until I see new players then I'll keep complaining!!!

Why ? There is plenty of time left, we are in the second week of June FFS, i think with the board tying Gerrard Carra, Alonso Reina and Sissoko down within a couple of weeks they may of been slightly preoccupied.

They deserve patience imo, and if the players we sign are the ones that everybody is opposed to- then fair enough complain until your hearts are content.

Oh f'ckin ell, Rick Parry is going to be there, he is going down early as he is helping to set up the stages and that.
That will mean further delays

Tevez I think is.

Why too expensive?

In all likelihood it would be a loan deal similar to mascherano's.

I still don't actually know what the deal is with Mascherano.... Do we have an agreement to buy?? If he continues to impress will we have to pay an exorbitant amount to keep him long term??

I dont think MSI are looking for a loan deal. MSI can cash in on tevez now.  If he has a super copa America he will be sold for a huge amount of money.

What leads you to believe they would be looking for an out and out sale at the moment?

Would you not think that given his age, just like Mascherano, they would want him to mature a little bit more before they sold him outright?

I fail to see which club in any case would be willing to pay enough to secure him on a permanent deal, how much do you anticipate he would cost?

His release clause is circa £40m.

Unless there is an agreement with West Ham whereby if a certain amount was offered he would be exempt from fulfilling the remaining 3 years at West Ham then I can't see it being a permanent deal.

They rolled into town saying that second is nowhere with promises of making Liverpool number one.

Benitez then demands the cash backing immediately after champs league final saying we need to recruit now and take two steps forward not one.

Since we have still not bought anyone since these events the signs look bleaker by the day.

If this is all a smokescreen before unveiling incredible signings then its quite a trick.

Looks to me that the new owners have revised the stadium plans, and decided that in view of this the recruitment budget has to be tighter at least in the short term.

What puzzles me is Hicks and Gillett are quoting Rafa as saying he wants build a team ethic and its not all about star names yet we all heard Benitez say exactly the opposite in his interview.

Rafa has been quiet lately and I guess is caught in the middle of what he really thinks and not upsetting his new employers too much.

We can only keep on checking reports and hope that things become clear very soon, preferably with some topclass players being brought to Anfield  :glare:

Nothing is conclusive but we have a fair idea if you read the whole thread.

From the F365 message boards.....

...Having noticed this morning's mails regarding the various negative press reports surrounding Liverpool's apparent and sudden lack of funds/activity in the transfer market, I can't help but feel it might be time for everyone to chill out somewhat. It's the summer, football journos have no actual football to write about, so they are forced to come up with whatever they can think of in order to fill their pages - if this happens to be controversial and so sell more papers, then all the better as far as they're concerned.

The facts are simple:

1 - No-one except Gillett, Hicks, Parry and Rafa knows how much money we have available, or which players we are serious about chasing.

2 - No newspaper journalist has any real idea of what we have to spend, and who we want to spend it on.

3 - We've just tied down our four most important players to long term deals, which hardly suggests there are any problems in terms of Gillett and Hicks giving Rafa what he wants, or that there is a shortage of money there to be played with. I won't even mention the fact we've already bought a 20 year old for £8m - again, hardly suggests a lack of funds does it?

I can understand why fans like Stephen, LFC are starting to panic, I was doing so myself a few days ago. But there's one main fact which everyone seems to have missed out on (including Tom 'in case you hadn't guessed I'm a massive tit' Evans) which is that most of our targets will be coming from La Liga, which hasn't even finished yet.

In which case Rafa can be wherever he wants to be. In fact, some would almost see it as sensible to get your hols out the way while you know your hands are pretty much tied business wise.

And by the way Tom, he hasn't been whinging about the board dithering, he's just made it clear to them he won't accept it should they start to do so.

By all means speculate as much as you'd like but remember, its silly season and don't believe anything until it's actually happened. Unless you're an Arsenal fan, in which case commiserations on losing Thierry - dunno about anyone else but I reckon he's off whatever he says...

To each of your points :

1) It takes longer than 5/6 months to take Liverpool to the top, it is a long term project, a strategic project. Would you expect them to stroll in and say "we hope to keep Liverpool challenging for 3rd and 4th place"?

2) Benitez wants us to be successful, he didn't demand cash. He made it patently clear what was needed, top class players and a freshening up of the youth system, combined with a strategic plan to grow the club commercially.

3) No other club other than the Mancs anywhere in Europe, let alone England, has made significant moves in the transfer window.

4) It takes time to organise the re-signing of four of our key players, organise the building of the new stadium and at the same time conduct transfer business. The two Americans are not stupid, they are Billionnaires for a reason and they built successful franchises in America for a good reason.

5) There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever other than complete conjecture that the revision of the stadium plans will in any way affect our transfer budget. Do you not think they have thought these things out thoroughly? The payment for the stadium will be structured - it is not a on-off payment to a building company this summer, it will be accounted for already. That is a separate issue to our transfer plans.

6) On your 6th point - words fail me. Read that again and please somebody tell me I'm not the only one who thinks it is absolute nonsense.

7) Would you expect Rafa to come out all guns blazing this transfer window? He is a quiet competent man who knows what needs to be done. If he was making comments in the media I'd wonder what work was being done.

8) Reports are just that, stories concocted by the media because they have nothing better to report and idiots will buy it.
