However, the American tycoon says the club will resist "spending like a drunken sailor" this summer.
Rumours abounded of millions being made available to the Reds boss following the takeover by Gillett and Tom Hicks.
Samuel Eto'o and David Villa were mooted as possible transfer targets, but with little movement so far this summer it has been suggested that financial restrictions have forced Benitez to lower his sights.
I reckon this tells us what we need to know. There will not be any big names this summer.![]()
Sold down the river? lied to? I feel cheated.
If I'm honest I'd agree with Lee, they promissed the world and haven't delivered f.*ck all yet, until I see new players then I'll keep complaining!!!

Tevez I think is.
Why too expensive?
In all likelihood it would be a loan deal similar to mascherano's.

So the long and short of it is absolutlely no one has a clue!

Benitez then demands the cash backing immediately after champs league final saying we need to recruit now and take two steps forward not one.
Since we have still not bought anyone since these events the signs look bleaker by the day.
If this is all a smokescreen before unveiling incredible signings then its quite a trick.
Looks to me that the new owners have revised the stadium plans, and decided that in view of this the recruitment budget has to be tighter at least in the short term.
What puzzles me is Hicks and Gillett are quoting Rafa as saying he wants build a team ethic and its not all about star names yet we all heard Benitez say exactly the opposite in his interview.
Rafa has been quiet lately and I guess is caught in the middle of what he really thinks and not upsetting his new employers too much.
We can only keep on checking reports and hope that things become clear very soon, preferably with some topclass players being brought to Anfield
