Width and Creativity - Something must change....

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Once again against Vitesse we completely lacked width and creativity. If GH doesn't want a winger, as one may not contribute for 90 minutes, we MUST have fullbacks that can get forward. Therefore Traore and Carragher simply must not be picked. I was at the Charlton game and the first half performance was one of the worst I have ever seen. If we don't buy Damien Duff perhaps we should buy Wayne Bridge and hope that Veggard Heggem gets fit. Something has to change now before our season is over!

GH never managed to correct those things. Heggem was a great player whose career was ruined because of injuries.

Its crackernuts

But this post although old is I think our main problem in that we have not had the support out wide. In fact Rob Jones and Macca is the last ones I remember linking up well for us

Riise and Kewell have the ability to do a crackning job on the left but they didn't seem to show much understanding playing together last season.

kewell never stayed on the left. he drifted all over the place, almost in a free role. hopefully benitez will deploy him on the left wing and get him back to his leeds form when he took defenders on and skinned them for fun.

Carragher had a great season at left full in the treble year.  Why not put him back out there.  Let him look after the defending and give Kewell a licence to attack down the left.

Because Riise has more ability as a player than Carragher and Carragher is right footed.

Kewell imo has a bit more ability than Vicente, look what Benitez done with him?

Thats why i think you'll see a different Kewell next season...

Denis Irwin is right footed.  He played left full at United for 10 years and probabaly played more games than any one else.  He simply concentrated on defending and left the attacking business to Giggs.

He could also overlap and had an exceptional left foot. He was genuinely two footed... Much like Marc Overmars.

True. Point taken, but I still reckon we must do better than Riise.

Riise and Kewell I think will link up better but who for the right flank?

Im still to be convinced about Finnan mind you and Diouf doesnt look like a natural right winger

Riise shown what he's capable of in his first season. I expect to see the same sort of form from him. Defensively imo he's improved ALOT and i think he still has the ability to get forward and attack and score goals.

finnan did nothing wrong last season. he looked solid, that's how i'd describe him. at least he has the ability to get forward, something carra is not so comfortable doing. as for right wingers, we don't have one. that is one position we must buy.
