Michael owen - We need him and he needs us

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I see 2 different opinions in this thread and I understand both, despite I agree more the posters who say bring back Owen for the benefit of the club.

Just wanted to ask, what feeling is more dominating in the Anfield's crowd in your opinion? the one who doesn't forgive Owen, or the other one? (in your opinion)

The claim submitted to the FA would have included not only what he earns on a weekly basis, but image rights, bonuses as well as the cost to the team.

The details of his contract were not made public, only the value of the claim was made public, the details of any player's contract are never disclosed.

My point is, we are speculating, we have a rough idea of what he earns but all this paper jargon must be taken with a hefty pinch of salt.

i.e. don't make assumptions that "we can't afford to pay his wages because he's on £130,000 P/W at Newcastle".

Its clear in any case that he would cost us £100k a week give or take 10k.

The value of the claim was not solely based on his wages P/W.

When you show me a copy of his contract, I'll be convinced  :D

For now, paper talk remains just that.

It's not cut and dry that he'd cost us close to £100k a week, if he wants to join us, in all likelihood he'd need to take a wage cut anyway.

As I said before I don't think he would expect us to match his newcastle wages. He still wanted to come back before when he was with Real, and he must have known then Newcastle would be offering him sily money.

£80k a week or £120k a week is the difference between being filthy rich or filthy rich.

That's what makes me angry when you purportedly hear negotiations stalling over mega wages.

Owen has performed on every stage.  His goal per game ratio is fantastic.. even at Newcastle.  He looks more muscular, stornger that I have ever seen him and you just don't lose the knacl of finding the back of the net.

As already mentioned in a Liverpool team where he often played up on his own, he often pulled us out of the cr&p on is own, as he had no service.  Im the curent side he would have buckets of chances per game.

Why do people think he has suddnely lost it.  He is not old for a striker, in fact you could say he is coming into his prime now.  Its a no brainer.  If Owen is available, buy him!

Spot on that. He's a proven goal scorer at all level - unlike Villa, Torres, Eto, Tevez, Bent etc. And he's available for £9 million.

I'm sick of hearing people he left for the money - not true, he thought he'd win more trophies at Real Madrid. Newcastle f.ucked up his move back to us by bidding a ridiculous price. I also think that Rafa needed to sell him in 2004 to fund transfers so didn't bend over backwards to keep him.

Yea, it's in the Echo too.

Gillet is said to back a move for Owen.
Gillet said : "Owen is a great player, but it is down to Rafa's recomendation, not us".

He looked pretty sharp tonight (England B game), didnt score but also got through the game with out breaking down, i know it was only Albania but he lasted the full 90 minutes.

Slightly off topic, did anyone see the number 11 for Albania Besart Berisha, 22 year old plays for Hamburg, ran Englands deffence ragged hit the bar and scored a great goal.

Lets buy him   :p

why are you guys so unforgiven about owen leaving to real...rush did the same when he went to juventus...and came back...
pls explain...i'm a liverpool fan but not from england so i wouldn't know the sentiments there...but in my opinion...he did a very good job at liverpool and had every right to try out his career elsewhere as did rush. his move to newcastle was never really explained properly...maybe he didn't have a choice? considering what newcastle is paying and what we were paying and you don't know what kind of contract requirements he had with real...

I would welcome owen back...we hadn't as good a striker as him since he left...

We never really replaced him. We have lacked a predatory striker every since he left to win the European Cup with Real Madrid...........heh heh heh.

See we've coped pretty well without him, because in the two years he's been away, we've won a Super Cup, a Community Shield, an FA Cup, a European Cup, and reached two European Cup finals in three years, while he's won fook all. So he's the one who has looked stupid while we have bathed in the soothing sensual glow of lights upon silver trophies.

But we do need a predatory striker and if we had one, then I'm sure we'd have a nice gold sixth star on our club badge by now. Provided the fee is reasonable and he can avoid getting injured, he's a proven goalscorer who really belongs with LFC. To this day I still regard him as a Liverpool player whenever I see him. It makes me sick to see Michael Owen in any club shirt that isn't Liverpool Football Club's

Come back Michael. Leave that coal and brown ale land behind you.

Offer the Toon maybe five million plus Cisse in exchange for him.

If Owen would of left a year earlier I would of had no problem.  Its the fact he stalled over a contract for months and then we lose him for £8 million.  Houiller and the club also needs to  accept some blame as Owen should of been sold a year earlier once he refused to sign a contract.
