Reading away

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby JoeTerp » Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:17 pm

If I remember correctly when we played Reading in the league cup earlier in the season I think I heard the announcer say that it was the first ever meeting between the clubs, which is kind of crazy considering the amount of time the two clubs have been around, but it is their first year in the top flight, and I think this would be Liverpool's first visit to Reading.   These guys are having a really good season for it being their first ever in the Premiership, last season in the Championship they set an English record for most points in the table at any level, and currently they are 3 points behind the blue shi.te for 7th, which will probably be the last spot to qualify for the UEFA Cup.  It is vital to keep up our excelent form both in the League and in Europe to keep our momentum going, and if we lose points in this match it makes the 4-1 arsenal win almost for not, in terms of finishing 3rd or 4th.
COME ON YOU REDS! 2-0 Gerrard, Fowler with a late goal as a sub to seal it.

Hope we'll win. By first ever meeting they mean in the League?, no cup encounters?

BTW, I know that Rafa-Dodd isn't payed for this but, bring back the Oppo thread ! :)

Our remaining Premiership games look relatively easy, with all due respect to our opponents.

I see no reason why we can't win every Prem game from now until the end of the season.

well.....at this moment...i don't really care about the league. I am basking in the glories run we are having in the champions league   :buttrock  .......  :D

Ah well..... anyway hope rafa continues to pick macherano in CM...becos he looks amazing there. With him playing there, our defence all of a sudden looks water tight.

This is the team i would like to see....

                       Reina
    Finnan    Carra    Hyppia    Riise
   Pennant    Mascherano   Gerrard  Gonzales/zenden
                 Bellamy
                             Crouch

This team should be good enuff to beat reading...

Its going to be a very tough game. I think Rafa will rest Gerrard and Alonso for this one and bring Sissoko in!

I can't see Rafa resting both Xabi and Gerrard.  What would he be saving them for? The CL game is pretty much locked up, I could see Stevie missing out on that game.  I think Rafa might go with a centre midfield of Gerrard and Mascherano vs. Reading and Alonso and momo vs. PSV. I like Pennant on the right agaisnt Reading and I hope to see Paul Anderson get a game against PSV.  I like Bellamy and Crouch to start against reading with fowler to come on fairly early for Crouch, while Lindfield or El Zhar and Fowler to feature in the home match against Eindhoven.  ALso want to see Sami feature in both games

Joe there is no question of Raffa putting out a weakened side against PSV or playing reserves mate!

Think about it..after next Wednesday we should be in the SEMIS OF THE C/L..ffs!
If Raffa shows disrespect to PSV it will be vastly unprofessional! We have one foot in the semis but in football anything can happen, anything!

There is no way Raffa will jepordise our chance of winning this competition by taking it for granted that we are through..if he did he would be a bad manager and foolish! Not Raffa!

i don't see the point in resting too many players. it's not as if we're desperately in need of them on wednesday is it?

we played a very weak side against Galatasary once we had locked up a birth into the knockout stages.  And I was only mentioning not  playing our top talent up front because goals aren't a priority.  I think Finnan, Carra, Sami, Arbeloa/Riise at the back with Reina in goal should play against PSV.  A central midfield of ALonso and Momo is pretty solid and playing Gonzalez on the left is probably our best option.  Heck after Crouch, some would argue that Fowler might be our best option considering recent play, and Kuyt possibly purposefully gave himself a yellow card to miss out on this game  I am not exactly certain which players are also in danger of suspension if they get a yellow but I would consider not playing them either.  I am sure there is a bigger chance of Rafa putting Zenden out there, either from the start or on the hour mark, and personally I would rather see Anderson get a crack on the right.  We all know what Zenden is capable of, and it isn't very impressive and many think he will be gone after this season, but Anderson is only 18 and Rafa must rate him because he put him on the bench last season against benfica when he was 17.  In the Barca game, Rafa knew that we didn't have to score in order advance and strategized accordinly, I think he will do the same only now the senario is much different having won 3-0 in the first leg instead of 2-1.

Raffa put out a 'weaker' team at Anfield in the Carling Cup vs Arsenal Joe!

We all know what happened there...May i remind you fella that PSV are the team that put arsenal out of the C/L.Also their away form has been very very good in the competition so far!
This is the quarters of the C/L mate..nothing is left to chance and nothing taken for granted!
