who's the best??

my personal favourite would have to be Alan Kennedy, always to be remembered for those European cup winners. A man for the big occasion and such a good ball player for a full back.

Steve Nicol was purchased for the right-back position even though he started of at Ayr United as centre-back.He played left and right back but he predominantly played as right or left midfield.Out of all the players named above,Steve Nicol reigns supreme but sadly I think he has to be excluded from the left back vote because he never played enough games at that position consecutively.

I loved the enthusiasm of Joey Jones,and the hard work that Barney Rubble got through every game but my vote will go to Alec Lindsay.

Alan Kennedy gets the vote but remember Jim Beglin? It seemed very harsh of Kenny Dalglish to make Beglin his firm first choice when Dalglish became manager and Kennedy still have a few years left in him but Beglin was a real gem and it was a pity that he broke his leg at Everton the following season and never returned as the same player. If not, perhaps he could have become a legend worthy of his talent.

Ever hear Jim Beglin commentate on Irish tv (and occasionally on late night ITV)?

He runs Mark Lawerson close for being a nob head........ok, I'm a bit harsh...Beglin was a decent player.

Unfortuantly im too young to ever remember an outstanding left back for liverpool(1991-present), so i will go with risse hsimply coz he was brilliant in his first season

I go for Alan Kennedy, never forget what he did against Real Madrid in European Cup Final in Paris, cor what a goal and brilliant run as well too!!

Jim Beglin was probabaly Liverpool's best player in the ill-fated 1985 European Cup final. However, I agree with JBG he is painful to listen to when commentating.

Alan Kennedy played his first game for Liverpool in the 7-0 thrashing of Spurs in 1978...he must have thought he was afer dying and going to heaven. Steve Heighway once said that he average players often became great when they joined Liverpool. Kennedy is an example of this After spending a few years with Newcastle in the 70's (played alongside Terry Mac for the Geordies in the '74 cup final) he joined Liverpool and became a great left back. It was disgraceful that he only won 1 England cap.

Whenever, I hear Alec Lindsay's name mentioned I always think of the disallowed goal he scored in the 1974 cup final. It was a cracking volley and replays clearly show it should have been allowed.

Steve Nicol (apparently he had the biggest feet in football) was a great and loyal servant. Remember his hat trick against Newcastle in 1988. Not bad for a full back.

As an Irishman I could be biased to Steve Staunton and while he always gave his best for the reds I don't think he would rate in my top 3.

Instead, i'll give my vote to Alan Kennedy. Remember his crucial goals in the 1981 league final (first game) against West Ham, his equaliser against the mancs in the '83 final, his winner against Real Madrid in Paris in '81 and his penalty winner against Roma in '85.

That was 1984 against AS Roma in European Cup Final, not 1985, mate.

Not really a standout position. I went for Nicol. He was more of a right back though wasn't he. Excellent player though.

Yeah, Stan Laurel your right it was '84 in Rome. The other full back Phil Neal scored the opening goal. Two full back were th goal scoring heros.....I suppose you call it total football
