who's the best?

Personally i can't split it between the legend Billy Liddell and John Barnes who is the one of the greatest players i've ever seen wearing a red shirt! A tough decision?

(other contenders: Bob Paisley, Ronnie Whelan, Mark Walters, Steve McManaman, Danny Murphy. . .ps: not all out and out wingers but i think all have some time in their career playes on the left side of midfield)

Barnes played exceptionally well in 1987-1988 season and probably was the best flair player we ever had.

Where is this post you talk of, Supersub, I wouldn't mind reading it if you could find it.

I had a my one and only season ticket, before me and my Dad had to give them up, in season 1987-8, (also one and only ever time I went to Wembley stadium was the Wimbledon final, although not a bad season to have a season ticket, let's face it!!!!) when John Barnes was THE BUSINESS.

He could have played in any league anywhere!!! No exaggeration, the man was born with a rare gift. What a player, an absolute legend.

With huge respect to the others in that list, John Barnes was the last player to make the hairs stand up on my neck at anfield. Every time he touched the ball the crowd held its breath. Truly magic. (Stan collymore did it to a lesser extent to b fair i suppose!)

i was round my mums mates house when i was like 7 or something and i had a kickabout with barnesey
hed have to be top for me, justw atching him play was awesome, his linking with rushey and in his last years he taught redknapp a load!

Ray Kennedy was some player you know, not as skillful as Barnes but stronger and a bettler tackler and defender. scored goals as well and had that air of superiority about him. Was fortunate enough to see both but from stories past i believe Billy Liddell was some player too. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets a few votes and the fact he is in the poll some 40+ years after his last game for liverpool speaks volumes

I was lucky to have seen all of them play, although Billy Liddell was coming to the end of his career so I probably didn't see him at his best,
I can understand why so many pick Barns'y - he was a great player and probably seen in person by most people on the site. But for pure 'edge of the seat' - 'hairs on the back of your head' footbal ability it has to be Peter Thompson for me.
He didn't score as many as JB but his overall play and support for the main strikers was brilliant.
Peter was arguably the most gifted player Bill Shankly ever brought to Liverpool but not the most acclaimed.
He never got as much credit as he deserved.
In those days there were no seats in the KOP but if there was I would have been on the edge of mine every time PT played.

I would agree with john Barnes being the best however I missed seeing Billy Liddell:blues: :blues:
