Sissoko....better midfielder than stevie g? - I think so!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Kev Huyton 2006 » Wed Aug 09, 2006 11:52 pm

Sorry to raise a controversial topic for all you die hards, But I have a strong case for reasoning that mohamed Sissoko has more qualities as a midfielder, than our own Stevie G.

He's only 20/21, has top drawer control, reading of the game, can break an oppositions play up, take players on, retain posession, and more! This guy's limits are endless.

Man of the match tonight. He was the only player who looked in control.

He is the next Patrick Viera. 2 season's from now, and we will have the best Midfielder in Europe!

Anyone Disagree or discussion...please comment.

Very good player indeed but in Gerrard we have one of the best midfielders in the world, the problem is fitting them both and alonso in, Gerrards versatility helps in this situation but for me the team suffers because of it and so does Gerrard.

This could turn out to be Rafa`s biggest headache, cant see Gerrard being happy having to play in 3 different positions then getting subbed.

ok on this occasion but more often than not its Gerrard who has to make way to fit Sissoko in.

Gerrard is better if this is even a valid debate, look at the skill levels between the two and the passing, shooting ability, composure, inspiration, adaptability etc.

But its not a debate I enjoy too much as they are both LFC players.  What about Alonso tonight spraying passes about and letting Sissoko roam which in my opinion he should have done more of to support.

He is and will be a hell of a player but better than SG now no way

Sissoko better than Gerrard?

That's a pretty big claim right there Kev.

Yes, Sissoko's still young, but he posesses an incredible amount of talent for his age. Though, I do not think that he is better than Gerrard at the moment, he may very one day be.

He's mature beyond his years, but he still needs to learn to back away from those rash challenges. But he'll never be the type of game winner that Stevie G is. In my opinion, they're totally different players. Sissoko is not the type of player who can win matches for you like Gerrard does.

Maybe I'm contradicting myself no? :D

He CAN become better than Steven Gerrard.

But I dont see it happening at the moment.

Gerrard is in a class of his own.

That's like saying Reina is a better player than Gerrard - they play completely different roles, and it's just not possible to compare them as life-for-like.

If Sissoko was a 20 goals a season man, it'd be easier to make the claim, but to be honest it's an argument you can't really win.

Put it this way, I wouldn't swap either of them for anybody at the moment. :D

Momo is brilliant at what HE does.

Stevie is brilliant at what HE does.

Neither of them can play the way the other does and therefore an invalid debate.

But as midfielders Stevie is the better. His passing, pace, heading, goals tally are all better and I would be tempted to say Stevie's tackling is better.

Momo may turn out to be like Stevie though and stop going into rash tackles as he gains more experince. Stevie was a very rash tackler when he started to. Right now Momo is a player we need in the side but will never be the hero. He does the donkey work for us and will be loved for it by the Reds following.

Billy_5_Times is right. Momo does a job that no one else in the side can do. No one else has his energy level.

Momo Sissoko is going to be one great player but will never be better than Stevie G and I can't see him getting into to many LFC greatest sides. But is still one of more important players.
