Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Plymouth Argyle's midfield is looking a bit shabby at the moment. Perhaps they could fish out £150,000 for Bruno :(

Liverpool midfielder Bruno Cheyrou has joined Rennes for an undisclosed fee.
The 28-year-old ex-France international has spent the last two seasons on loan to Marseille and Bordeaux, despite being on Liverpool's books.

And on Friday he finally ended his association with Anfield permanently after agreeing terms with Rennes.

Cheyrou was a £4.5m signing from Lille by former Reds manager Gerard Houllier but struggled to make his mark in the English top flight.

He made a total of 48 appearances, scoring five goals.

skysports have got it too....

French midfielder Bruno Cheyrou has ended his disappointing spell at Liverpool by signing for Rennes.

Cheyrou joined The Reds in the summer of 2002 from Lille and he figured prominently during his first season at Anfield.

Gerard Houllier's departure from Merseyside in 2004 changed Cheyrou's fortunes, as he slipped out of the picture under Rafa Benitez.

He spent the last two seasons on loan at Marseille and Bordeaux and was informed by The Reds that he could seek out a permanent move this summer.

A number of clubs expressed interest in the 28-year-old, with Rennes proving to be the most persuasive.

An accord has been reached with all parties and Cheyrou will be unveiled by the Rouge et Noir at a press conference on Friday.

:)  :)  thank f**k for that!

Diao's got one more year on his LFC contract. Hopefully we can loan him out somewhere and get his salary down, but thankfully this will be the last season we'll have to worry about horrific Houllier purchases leeching from the club.

A few of my mates down the pub last night said they reckon we got around £900,000 for Cheyrou.  I was pretty pi.ssed though so I can't remember their source.  If we did then I think we have done well.  I suspect the initial fee is a lot less than that but may rise to something in that region depending on appearances etc.

I also remember reading that the fee was in that range, but the main thing is that he is off the wage bill.

To be honest, getting any fee for the guy is a result. I'd resigned myself to him sitting his contract out for another year and walking for free next summer. Saving a year's wages and getting money on top is great business under the circumstances - he's done practically nothing for 2 years.
