The very same thought crossed my mind BUT does Stevie really need a captains armband to enable him to impose himself ? I hope not .

Must admit (along with the rest of the team) he's been a disappointment so far . He hasn't imposed himself and we can't continue to blame the manager or Fat Frank for Stevies at best average performance. This is the stage where TOP players take control and make others dance to their tune . Look at the likes of Rooney and Joe Cole , they are not waiting to be invited to "turn it on" . C'mon Stevie , f'uck the game plan , stop playing the responsible second fiddle to Fat Frank , get in there !

Firstly Steven Gerrard comes across as a very insecure person and i think giving him the armband would massively increase his performance. He NEEDS the responsibility of captaining the side and leading the team.

Also you say he's not imposed himself? I'm sorry but he's been Englands best player along with Joe Cole. That doesn't say much, but the two of them have been excellent so far. Gerrard isn't at his best, but england can't get the best out of him.

Is it me or did Ian Wright look particularly depressed last night? Hey guys snap out of it. England have a brave new manager and one who will hopefully revert to playing attacking football once more. Sven was'nt the only manager to make poor decisions at high level look at Peckerman. He took off Riquelme 20 mins towards the end, never played Messi and brought on Roque Santa Cruz (the big man to hold the ball up in the middle) they stopped playing sexy football result....Argentina out of competition. Sven made no attempt to play sexy football even the Italians tried to play sexy football. I think the game is changing, either that or you need a very big man to hold the ball up verry well if you are gonna play that way otherwise the ball just keeps coming back. My best player so far? it is difficult. I like Klose, Joaquin, Torres, Schweinsteiger,Deco and Totti (Totti has been injured though) Kaka, Zidane, Vieira I have watched often, Robinho I like though he can be maddening. Ronaldinho was quiet in this tournament (He was obviously warned not to show boat more's the pity. At Barcelona he invents a new outrageous trick every week.) but I think that is because in the Brazil team he is seen as a junior member and so never took on responsibility to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Whilst the so called snr members did not perform.  Vieira and Zidane seem to be playing well. I think France will attack and Portugal will pack the midfield and try and out outnumber the French midfield. I hope Simao plays so We can see how he will perform at this level. I think my favourite so far has been Ribery.

At least Peckerman had the trophy in his grasp to throw away, same can't be said for England. Peckerman also took to Germany a very strong Argentina team and had his tactics sorted. If he hadn't made some bizarre changes they might of beaten Germany and Italy to get to the final, not to mention that Argentina played and looked like champions, again the same can't be said for England.

Manhattan would keep him in the squad.

Might not be an automatic first choice though.

McClaren should now start to bring younger strikers through, since that was the big problem at the World Cup.

Harewood, Ashton, Bent, Beattie and Walcott.

Give these guys a chance.

I just read that mclaren has dropped Beckham. Good news for England. I never thought he was good never mind "world class". Beardsley (before hime) and Scholes(during his time) were both much better.

I hate the way people talk about "becks" as if he is a friend of theirs, all part of a publicity machine that got an average player the status of most famous player in the world. How many asians or americans know who zidane is? how many know who Beckham is?

I always hated everything he stood for and feel that it was an example of the style over substance issue which I despise.

Thank f.uck beckham is gone, now alls mclaren has to do is:

1) Drop lampard so we can see gerrard at his best for england so they have a chance of winning something.
2) Play carra with terry as the first choice centre backs.
3) Call up pennant.
4) Change his mind and give the captaincy to gerrard.

Then ill be happy.
