Slagging?

I'm not slagging him off. I am just saying that he has not the tricks nor the pace to give his fullback a hard time and get to the byline. His game has improved over the last few months. But to say that he is a world class or even a class winger is a lie. He is only an average player with average skills.

i think we should focus only on the striker department, we are absolutely struggling in that area.  Spend all of our available funds to get a striker please~

Simao plays on the left and we've already got Gonzalez, Kewell and Zenden so I can't see Rafa buying him, especially not at £12m+  ???

Who's that in your sig  :eyebrow

Sabre how do you feel about Morientes representing your country in the WC 2006?
All spaniards must hope and pray that he doesnt even make the bench.

I wouldn't want for Spain what I wouldn't want for Liverpool. So far I've been defending him, and it's not because he's Spaniard, but because I rate him Ciggy, so I did hope he represented us in Spain.

But the WC is a competition of 7-8 games and if you have not confidence ... and there are 4-5 striker struggling for the place, I'd understand if he eventually didn't go. I also think that with Vicente on the left and Joaquin in the right he'd be more of a threat.

Gato Busta wrote

We need a winger who does not only cross the ball in BUT is also a goal threat. Don't get me wrong, Kewell is a great player but Liverpool can get someone better.

It's not his skill what I'm not convinced of, it's not that I don't like how he crosses, it's not that I don't like how he dribbles, it's not that I don't like his commitment to defend, and I don't have anything against Aussies, on the contrary, I like them, but I just don't  like many decissions he takes during the match, he just doesn't make the correct decissions, I just think players like Vicente (and many more perhaps with not that much skill) outclass him and Liverpool deserves it.

About Gonzalez Cool Hand Luke uses to read and post in the Mark GOnzalez thread, and so far, he's promising but I'm still not sure if he's what we need , I tell you at the end of season when he has both stamina and matches on his back.

I dont understand why Kewell is taking the blame now, he has been our better performers on the field for previous months consistently. I know Gonzalez is coming, but isnt it better for us to have 2 quality players competing for that spot? If we are playing some manager games of cos we would go for world class players for every position, but wake up this is reality football. Give Kewell the credit he deserves.

Fernando Torres or Michael Owen in the Summer. We cannot accept any less at the moment.

I don't like taking scape goats Houllier=LFC, I just give my opinion on where we can improve the squad, and while I think that with Finnan we hardly can have a better player for the LB, I think there are dozens of better players than Kewell for the LW position. And affordable. Just as we need a new striker, and we need a signing for the right side.

Oh I mentioned somewhere that Etoo would improve the squad, so would Owen, but never Torres.

Owen >>>>> Torres, in every sense, but mostly in finishing.

Cool Hand Luke wrote:If you look at our squad closely we are not that far off from being very strong.

We have 3 Keepers, Reina is a clear first choice, Dudek is an experienced and quality back up and Carson is a promising youngster.

Next season we will have four centre backs, Hyypia, Carrgher, Agger and Palleta. I fully expect Hyypia to be here next season, Agger will be ready to compete for a first team spot and Palleta will be 4th choice, he will have the opportunity to learn the language, settle in the city, play some reserve and carling cup games, and will be ready if needed. In Finnan and Kromkamp we have 2 very good right backs, and it is a similar case with Riise and Warnock.

We have four excellent central midfielders, on the left we have Kewell, Zenden, and also Gonzalez will be integrated next season. On the right we have nobody and this is a problem that Rafa will look to address.

Upfront is were we have problems. Cisse and Morientes are flops, no question about it. Crouch is a decent player, and Fowler still has plenty to offer. Garcia is another player I would consider a forward and is very useful. The strikers are definitely something we need to address in the summer. I think we could get away with signing just one quality striker.

                      Reina
                      Dudek
                      Carson

Finnan       Hyypia     Carragher     Riise
Kromkamp  Agger       Palleta        Warnock

???           Gerrard      Alonso        Kewell
???           Sissoko      Hamann      Gonzalez
                     and Zenden

                 Crouch        ???
                 Fowler       Garcia
                    and Pongolle

So only Troare, Cisse and Morientes are the players that need to leave, and also the loan players.
To me that looks very healthy, we not far off from having a very strong squad. 2 quality additions, a right midfielder and a striker would make us a real force.

If you ask me, things are looking really good for next season, Rafa is building a very strong, versatile and impressive squad. Onwards and upward I say!

quality point there.....

though as good as crouch/fowler/pongolle/garcia are i do think we need 2 strikers coming in... both men upfront need to bang in goals not just one while the other chips in ocasionally.

-> look at teams around us.
chelski: drogba/crespo/gudjohnson all score freely.
Manure: roony/van horseface - saha on bench
spurs: defoe/keane/mido - all score freely

and those 3 teams all have TWO strikers in the top 11 goalscorers.

1 Ruud van Nistelrooy Man Utd 19
2 Thierry Henry Arsenal 17
3 Frank Lampard Chelsea 14
4 Darren Bent Charlton 13
5 Marlon Harewood West Ham 13
6 Aiyegbeni Yakubu Middlesbrough 13
7 Ahmed Mido Tottenham 11
8 Robbie Keane Tottenham 10
9 Wayne Rooney Man Utd 10
10 Andy Cole Man City 9
11 Hernan Crespo Chelsea 9

... saying that it depends on robbies form, but we do need 2 or even 3 goalscorers... if we are gonna challenge for the title... or win in europe we need 2 goalscorers... then injury/resting isnt such a problem

Paul.. your normally much more on the ball..  The reason we had to play Traore is because everyone else is cup tied.  This is the only reason Raffa has kept Traore IMO.  He's a gonna come the summer.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

We have the best midfield and central defenders in Europe but need quality upfront to win games, Rafa needs to realise that he's persisted with Nondo and Cisse but it's not working, the cash needs to be spent rather than trying to buy cheap muppet!!!!  :(

Idiot.
