i can't honestly see Rafa paying 13 million for a kid of 16...

if he doesn't show his potential at arsenal that is 13 million down the drain, rafa is more astute, and spending 13 million on a 16 year beggers belief,i am surprised at wenger with this potential transfer ,usually he is more astute in the transfer market when it comes to youngsters.

Doesnt it tell you how good this kid is then that wenger is going out of his way to sign him?

Anyone who writes wenger off is a muppet, he has bulit a team of UEFA cup qualifiers into the most entertaining side in europe and with Pires and Berkamp and Vieira gone, with a couple more buys and there move to there new 60000 stadium next year, they will definetly be challenging Chelsea again next season, we just should have made more of an effort to put a spanner in wengers works.

Garymac your spot on about Wenger. He is a master team builder on not limited resources but not exactly major money either.
I would of loved us to offer the money for Wallcott he is obviously the next big thing.

But rafa adopts a bit of a cautious approach with transfer funds...well either that or we dont have that kind of money to spend on a player who is not yet first team material.
I am also a bit disappointed but confident in the manager finding the right type of player for half the price.

The fact that he hasn't joined Chelsea says a lot about how sustainable their current set up is.

No young kid in their right mind is going to even consider going there. I'd hate to be a player in the Chelsea 'yoof' team as even if they were of Gerrard standard they aren't going to get a look in.

£12m is a ridiculous amount to pay for such a young player, though they won't be paying anywhere near that for quite a while will they?

It would have been nice to have signed him, but even £3m would have been a risky deal as its very hard to tell how far he'll go. He could go on to be a world beater, but he also might not get that much better - especially as he isn't going to be playing much first team football so his career could stagnate.

I'm not disappointed he's going to Arsenal at all though. I love watching Arsenal play and he could potentially take them back up to the next level in the future.

Benitez spoke recently about how the English market is wildly overinflated, Walcott is just the latest example of this.

10-12 million for Walcott is ridiculous - a 16 year old who has played a handful of games in the Championship?  I admit he looks fantastic, and I believe I mentioned him in a thread after the first time I saw him play against Wolves back at the start of the season saying that he had massive potential.  Now the hype has gathered momentum, much like it did with SWP last season, and he is about to go for big money.

I am disappointed we couldn't snap him up for a couple of million, but at 10-12 million I'm not in the slightest bit disappointed we haven't gone in for him.  Benitez knows the market and he knows what Walcott is probably worth, and that is nowhere near 10-12 million.  I'm sure Benitez could find players on the foreign market who would suit our current needs better and not cost as much.  This is typical English media hype.

People always say 'well if Wenger thinks he's worth that much then he must be'.  Rubbish.  People remember all the bargains Wenger has found and think he's a genius in the transfer market.  But that doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes.  Who else thinks Reyes was worth 18 million?  I don't.  Jeffers 10 million?  Enough said.

Having said this I think there is a very good chance of Walcott making a good player, but at 16 he has a lot of developing to do and no one can really say how he will turn out.  Too much of a risk at that price.

arsenal wanted to buy him and then loan him back to southampton, but i'm sure this is illegal.

take us not being allowed to loan carson back to leeds for example.

thats rediculous if true. Its harder now then ever for youngsters to break into premiership first teams. if both clubs want a loan deal straight away to help the player then whats the problem.

this normally initially sorted out in their contract, isn't it?therefore the club is not necesarilly able to do things outside the written agreement (vice-versa), IMO.

Liverpool target Theo Walcott is reportedly undergoing a medical with a Premiership club.

The 16-year-old Southampton starlet was absent from training at Southampton today as he prepares to move on to his next employers.

Arsenal are favourites to land the player who's hoping for a dream transfer to Anfield. Although Liverpool have been sniffing around him, the Reds are not prepared to splash out a ridiculous amount of cash on the teenager.

Speaking exclusively to KOPTALK.COM this morning - and prior to any developments today - a Liverpool FC insider said: "Rick (Parry) has been speaking with Warwick Horton (the player's agent) this week.

"The club are willing to make another offer but they won't be dragged into a bidding war with other clubs.

"Both Rick and Rafa believe if Theo wants his dreams to come true that he will sit tight and reject the advances of Arsenal no matter how advanced the situation is.

"The Walcott family feel under pressure because of verbal agreements with Southampton which were made a long time ago but if the boy has dreams, people should let him live them."

It is claimed that Southampton are looking for a down payment of £5million with a further £7million to be paid to them depending on appearances and achievements.

Liverpool striker Peter Crouch is understood to be close to the Walcott family and he could hold the key to wrecking Arsenal's hopes.

Arsenal believe that they will land the player because of the vibes coming from Southampton's top brass. Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein believes Liverpool - not Chelsea - are the only threat, but the Gunners remain confident that they can push the transfer deal through.

Any delays are a good sign for Liverpool but the clock's ticking

Well i hope to hear more good news but i wont be holding my breath. We can afford it quite easily but its just a matter of how badley Rafa wants young talent in the squad. It seems like a blessing that hes a Liverpool fan but i think Arsene Wenger has this one sown up. However we have all seen from the Stevie sage as well as the Simao deal in the summer that players can pull out at the last minute if they are really dead set on doing or not doing something. I just just hope the boy does something similar.
