Put £3m on the table, and agree to loan him to Southampton for the rest of the current season and ALL of next. Southampton don't have any massive transfer targets at the moment, and I'm sure three mill could be made to go quite far to strengthen their squad.

The £3m would then entitle us to first option on the kid for a fixed sum. We agree to pay three further instalments of £3m - a) one on the day he arrives at LFC, b) one after 50 first team appearances for the club, and finally c) one in the event of an England cap.

So, all going to plan - they get their £12m, he gets the club of his dreams, and we get a player with two seasons of first team experience and Chelski and Arsenal both go away and f*ck themselves. Sorted. :D

I like your thinking mate, hopefully Rafa is on the same wave length!!!

What station? I'm hearing nothing about it.

in the car, TALKSHITE, ROD MARSH saidhe was told today we are the third club.
Id offer - 4mil now, 4 mil after 50 games, 6 mill over 2 years and Mellor

Although talkshite has said this, it has not been reported by itv bbc or SSN, so until its reported on them I wouldn't get too excited.

On the offer, many clubs now say they will give money depending on the clubs future sucess (like manure with shrek) that may be an idea along with the other bits. A good idea to include mellor since his move to hearts has stalled.

Wenger is good at nurturing youg talent, and i think if the lad is as good as people say wenger has the ability to help him acheive his potential. Im not fabregas's biggest fan in truth, bit over rated in my view but he has been given the chance to succed at arsenal and i think if walcot goes there he will be given exactly the same. I dont think the players nationality really has anything to do with it, arsenal have developed some good young foreigners. At arsenal he'll be given the chance, if he's good enough he'll take it, if he's not he won't.

Possibly mate, but you have to look at the likes of Upson, now he's not the best, he's not better than Toure and Campbell, but is he better than Cygan?

Then there's Pennant, who even a blind man can see has all the ability in the world. He could EASILY become one of the best right sided players in the country with the correct manager. He's got pace, intelligence, superb technique and skill, excellent delivery and tracks back aswell. However, Wenger, for whatever reason (might have been his attitude) deemed him not good enough.

Pennant has a similar level of ability to Pires, its just a question of being a good enough manager to get him to show it regularly.

Also, he took Francis Jeffers and Richard Wright, both of which had there career's ruined. Now, as i've said i ain't much of a judge when it comes to keepers, but Wright always looked quality in an ipswich shirt to me. Jeffers aswell, before he went to Arsenal always looked capable of scoring a goal, now look at them both...

youve caught me out here, with pennant in particular, his situation does seeem similar to walcott...

However i do think regardless of that arsenal will give him a fair chance. Espescially with the fee its obvious he rates him so he'll get his chance. Also i think when it comes to dealing with CLASS players wenger has a good track record.

Look at Henry, the progress he made from his time at Juventus was unreal...

Maybe it was more of a mistake from Juventus of not seeing his potential as an attacker, then wengers brilliant managerial skills however the difference between how good he was at juventus and how good he is now is remarkable.

Also anelka. He's someone who does seem very hard to manage, however the best football he has ever played was at Arsenal and at a very young age. I dont think the reason he left was down to Wenger more of a bad attitude from himself.

Obviously these players arent English but except for pennant i dont think the players you listed were potential Class.

Jeffers had ability, but he never struck me as a player who had the potential to be as good as say, Henry or Bergkamp. Injuries also hindered his development if my memory serves me correctly and he did still get a few chances to prove his worth.

Btw, im not saying that Arsenal is a better choice then us. I think we are just as capable of nurturing him and giving him some first team oportunitys.

I was realy comparing Arsenal to chelsea. I dont think there is any doubt he will get a better chance at Arsenal then chelsea.

Going to Chelsea would absolutely ruin his development and perhaps jeopardise his ability to fulfill his full potential. Look at Wright-Phillips. Jose Mourinho is hardly known to put an arm around his players and cosset them if necessary especially when they are still very young and need much more of a personalised guidance, in fact, it is the opposite - leave the poor fellah to his own devices.

Chelsea's ulterior aim is to stockpile players and deny their rivals the opportunity to buy and field them and strengthen their team, even if Chelsea don't really need these players.

He should go to Arsenal rather than Chelsea, but of course we should try to get him (if he is really that good) provided that the price is reasonable. As it stands, Southampton wants whomever is interested in Walcott to outbid each other.

Well if it DOES go to a bidding war, we're knackered.

But as Rush says - it's up to Theo at the end of the day.

It will more likely down to his agent as he stands to make more money the bigger the transfer fee

An agent can't make a player sign for a team, only advise (badly). - It's up to Theo.

Looks like he's off to the gooners.

Gunners pip Chelsea to make Walcott their £12m teenager

Jeremy Wilson
Thursday January 19, 2006
The Guardian

Theo Walcott is poised to become the most expensive 16-year-old in British football, with a £12m move to Highbury expected to be completed today. After almost a week of negotiations, Southampton and Arsenal had last night edged towards final agreement on a deal for the striker which would see £5m being paid up front with the remaining £7m dependent on future appearances.
Assuming there are no last-minute problems, Walcott will have permission to speak to Arsenal and will undergo a medical at Highbury. Personal terms are unlikely to present a stumbling block with Walcott ready to be offered a pay rise which may be more than 100 times his current £90-a-week standard academy salary.

Walcott is still a first-year scholar and his first professional contract will take effect from March when he turns 17. It is expected that Arsenal will offer the maximum three-year deal for a player of his age and then seek to extend that contract in the near future.
Southampton had been keen on an arrangement which would see Walcott loaned back for the rest of the season but that has become less likely. The signing will represent a coup for the Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, who has faced strong competition from both Chelsea and Tottenham.

Chelsea were reportedly prepared to better any offer from Arsenal and would almost certainly have provided a superior financial package for the player.

Walcott, though, sees Arsenal as the best place for his footballing development and is attracted by Wenger's reputation for nurturing emerging talent. He was also mindful of the limited first-team opportunities that he might have had at Stamford Bridge.

Southampton's chairman Rupert Lowe has said he wants to keep his prized asset, but his hand has largely been forced by the possibility that Walcott would walk away from the club before his 17th birthday and would have a compensation fee determined by a tribunal. He will now be hoping to make some Premiership appearances this season and he has until the end of this month to beat Gerry Ward's record as the youngest Arsenal player to appear in a league match.

Im a bit disappointed we havent made more of an effort because it will have been worth it, the boys going to be class, you can see it already with him, serious this will enter Arsenal into a new phase if he goes there and they keep Henry.

Anyone who writes wenger off is a muppet, he has bulit a team of UEFA cup qualifiers into the most entertaining side in europe and with Pires and Berkamp and Vieira gone, with a couple more buys and there move to there new 60000 stadium next year, they will definetly be challenging Chelsea again next season, we just should have made more of an effort to put a spanner in wengers works.
