i hate the transfer window all the hype and when it opens its nothink but waiting, i havnt seen this theo lad come out and say that he wants a move to lpool infact iv never seen him play. i think its a formality that the gunners will get him, even skysports news havnt quoted lpool as being in for him

Perhaps its a good job I'm not manager - but I'd be tempted to have a bit of a gamble and splash out 5mil up-front and pay the balance upon appearnces etc.  Things are going our way at the moment and maybe this is another opportunity to improve the team in the long run.  The initial outlay would at least be amortized over the next 3-4 years as Walcott matures and at the end of that time even if he's not turned out to be what everyone hoped talent wise if we want to on-sell him he'll probably return the same kind of figure the likes of Pennant demand now just because he's English.

By my way of thinking we have a slight advantage in the transfer market in that it is assumed that anyone we sell is still pretty good but just can't compete for a place in the squad that we have ant any given time. Whereas 'lesser' teams selling someone means the player's either useless or the chairman wants to cash-in knowning he'll lose the player on a bosman anyway.

All this 12m stuff is doing my head in...

I as understand it all the deals will be broken down something like this... (thanks to RAWK's Nidgemo)

Arsenals 12 million will be something like this

3 million now
2 million at 50 games
2 million at 100 games
1 million if capped by england
2 million if 25 england caps
1 million if title winner
1 million if european cup winner

so if the guy's useless we've blown 3mill.  If he goes on to do all of the above nobody will be complaining about 12mill I can assure you....

Hmmm..Arsene does have a knack of spotting top class strikers before anyone else. His track record is second to none in this... I think we have missed opportunity here :(
Someone phone Theo's dad now and tell him the Pool are interested and sign nothing for the gunners yet! Let's face facts..We need another Owen/Fowler and this lad seems to be it! Only 16 I know, but remember what an impact Fowler and Owen made at a young age!!! If we're going to challenge the blue mercenaries next year, Theo might just be what we need!!!

Hmmm Thierry Henry was already a world cup winner and at mighty Juventus when Wenger spotted him as you call it, admittedly he was a flop in Italy and being played on the wing.
Wenger deserves a great deal of credit for helping turn Henry into probablt the finest forward in Europe.
But he does not have a track record of picking up strikers.
What happened with Mr Jeffers and Mr Pennant ?
Bergkamp was signed by Bruce Rioch and Kanu never really set the world alight.
Reyes at 17 million was massively overpriced.
Van Persie is proving a good buy at 3 million but nothing world class yet imo.

If Liverpool do sign him? I hope he would not be rushed into the first team.

Just thought i'd add this as a footnote to the whole thing.

Liverpool - Rafa admits £12m star interest
20 Jan 2006 12:33

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez admitted that he was interested in signing Arsenal's new signing Theo Walcott - but wasn't prepared to enter an auction for the player.

The 16-year-old former Southampton starlet has completed his move to Arsenal today for an initial £5m rising to £12m, and Benitez revealed his disappointment out missing out on the player.

"We know Walcott is a good player and his family says he is a Liverpudlian. He could have made it happen if he and his family held their nerve," Benitez told the Liverpool Echo.

"If a player says he wants to go to a particular club, it must not be the agent who decides what the player should do. It always depends on the players.

"Walcott is a player I like, but the final decision about which club he joins is his."

And he got the best  out of Anelka! Look at the money he made on him... And he knew the right time to sell him!, but this is in danger of going off thread. All I'm saying is, if wenger things Theo's worth the risk of a big outlay, I'm inclined to sit up and pay attention!
