Sinama just needs the games, Kewell needs a couple to boost confidence and i think we're laughing.

you could add Morientes to that list as well IMO, he has played pretty well this season, just needs to be a bit more clinical. If we do get those players scoring 10+ goals a season plus a few from the likes of hyppia and riise we could really start wiping the floor with most teams, as Benitez is building a team that carries a threat from all areas.

nah, he'll improve with experience, he just needs to learn when to make the tackle, rather just try to make one all the time.

personally i still prefer to see a team with hard working clever skillful players on the left and right side of midfield (john barnes/beckham type) than the kick and run as fast as you can type (giggs, downing etc)

i think liverpool pass and move philosophy is still the way forward to produce a team capable of destroying any other, when you build a team that embraces and masters that art it is unstoppable, just like we were in the 80's.   The chelsea philosophy is highly simple but highly effective but up against a total passing team i believe it will be flawed, the chelsea philosophy is basically 1 man up front, 2 lightening quick wingers and 7 hard working defense minded players which makes them really hard to score against but always a real threat to score themselves,  hence they sit there simple and effective carcass on top of the premiership at the moment, but in the long run it is a philosophy that can be surmounted by a well built organised pass and move team like we were in the 80's,  i have no doubts in my mind that that team would embarrass this current chelsea team.

just my opinion but the premiership seems to be obsessed with the likes of giggs, robben, swp etc when IMO the greatest team ever assembled (liverpool in the 80's) had no players like this, i believe rafa shares my philosophy too and thats why we wont ever see the likes of joaquin at anfield and that also cisse will be shown the door eventually because is first touch is poor, being able to keep the ball is the key ingredient required in bringing the old liverpool pass and groove back again and i truly believe that in 2 years from now we will see a very beautiful liverpool side perched up on top of that premiership table.

believe! :buttrock

Good post

I mostly agreed with that , you are right in saying it has become an obsession to find a pacey winger. For me personally if I had the chance to sign Giggs at his peak , Barnes at his peak or Joaquin I would definately say Barnes.
Out of the three he didnt have the pace the other two do but the way he played football was something else. John Barnes had great upper body strength and was very hard to barge off the ball.

But players like him in todays game are more or less non-existant and the more athletic type are suited to todays game, therefore more pace.

You are definatley right on the pass and move philosophy , that is the best way to play the game and to beat your opponents.
In theory then you wouldnt need lightning pace just quick thinking and movement.
Again you may well be right in thinking Rafa has the same chain of thoughts , Crouch is good on the deck and has the footballing brain to pick a pass and move same to with Morientes.
Kewell has lost a yard of pace which made him an explosive winger with Leeds , so he will need to adapt his game to make up for the loss of that yard of pace. But he has the ability still to make a good winger with what he has in his locker and not just rely solely on pace.

For the pass and move style, Vicente at Valencia would be a class signing. The fact that Rafa managed him there would help no end, and he knows how to tackle aswell.
