I think the last 5 games or so he's been really good. When he's not had the ball he's worked and his passing and movement and slight unpredictability have been good.

He's not conceeding stupid possession as much now and for that reason alone fans are starting to come round to the idea he deserves another chance... his last chance though.

Still, if he continues like this there won't be any problems and i'm happy for him to stay.

Yes, his use of the ball now in keeping simple possession is back up to scratch. A ;lot of his strength and fitness is back, and he can hold off an opposing player to pick a simple pass to keep possession: something he wasn't doing last year.

He is also getting better at beating his man and whipping the ball in. His cross for Crouch's header/goal against Newcastle was first class. A perfect cross.

If he stays injury free he'll get even better at beating his man and whipping in crosses.

All that really remains is the return of his genius moments, the arrogant shots beating the keeper from outrageous positions, the dangerous and cutting moves into the penalty box. All he needs is a goal to get him going, and Lady Luck to smile on him and keep him injury free.

If Kewell returns to his best it will be Benitez' biggest managerial success from a man management perspective.

Agree with you there stu, I heard a few weeks back in the Echo and on here that Kewell was showing improvement but what little of him I was able to see on the TV I couldn't see it but over the christmas period i saw alot of the games and he is definately starting to look like the player we signed from leeds; he looks as though he has lost a bit of pace but i think he has got a footballing brain that allows him to get past players without having blistering pace and still be able to get to the byline.
I think reading this thread most of us would agree that a player with a burst of pace (but not a hit and run like a headless chicken) and still the abilty to pass a player using skill and thought with a good crossing ability would be the happy medium but sadly there aren't many of them about.

Having pace is good, but what's important is using the ball with that pace. For instance, look at Henry [I know he isn't a winger, just an example]. He has loads of pace but he controls the ball very well while he's running at defenders.

Then you look at Cisse. He needs 5-10 yards to start running real fast, but he chases the ball rather than running with it.

The same is with a winger, if he has pace then it's essential for him to utilize it correctly rather than running like a headless chicken.

i know what you mean with harry`s goals out of the blue.
i particularly remember that rocket at highbury for leeds from about 35 - 40 yards on the last day of the season a few years ago, it sunk arsenals title hopes and allowed united to pinch the title but it went like a f@cking exorcet.
as stu mentioned he was one of the few players who stood up to be counted even in the first half against luton. he`s either been the liverpool echo`s man of the match or in with an honorary mention for the last five or six games.

Do you remember his goal for Leeds in the Champions League (v. Brugge?)?

He got the ball on the half way line in a counter attack, ran 15 yards, was getting in front of the defence when low and behold he just fired in a rocket to the far corner. Absolutely outrageous.

must admit my memory of them in that great champions league run they had is a bit sketchy, but i seem to remember kewell playing a blinder against lazio away and all the papers the next day were full of story`s of impending 25m pound bids for harry from all the italian big hitters.
he`s a class player who looks to be returning to form, as we all know a player with confidence is ten times the same player without it, confidence is a footballers lifeblood, and i think harry`s confidence hit rock bottom but its now on its way up and improving every game.

kewell is very capable of the the spectacular, and in recent games has come close to scoring with some good efforts at goal, once he finally gets one in i reckon he will really start flying as the rest of his game has really been coming on as of late. He has now got the confidence back to have a go at beating a man and trying a trick or two, also his distribution has been very good aswell.

But having said that i wont believe the turnaround is complete until he plays at least 10 consecutive games with a decent to good level of performance.

agree with that, once the goal comes i think they will start to come quite regular, if we could get kewell scoring 10 to 12 goals a season that would really add another dimension to our already impressive team.

To be fair i think we've got Gerrard, Kewell, Luis Garcia, Crouch and Sinama-Pongolle who are capable of 10-15 goals a season consistently.

Sinama just needs the games, Kewell needs a couple to boost confidence and i think we're laughing.

I haven't included Sissy because i want him to be sold to bring in another 15 goal + striker and a quality right winger.
