I don't think it was a particular point in time when thinges changed for the better. I think it is a case of continous improvement and learning, both by the manager and the players. Switching from 4-4-1-1 to 4-4-2 has nothing to do with this. Modern football is about defending in numbers and attacking in numbers. And I am pretty sure we will play many more games this season with a 4-4-1-1 setup. Benitez has done a fantastic job so far. Some criticised him when he refused to pay insane money in august for some transfer targets. What do they think now? Simao £ 16 mill? He is now available for £ 8 mill. Owen? Should have stayed in Madrid, as soon as he is first 11 material he is injured. £ 17 millions? Only a dogbrain like souness would pay that. All in all I believe the main reason why Rafa did not pay insane money is that he knows football too well and he is going to be here a long time. He is not in a rush to sort things out the expensive way. As Rafa said earlier this season, not many players are going to be good enough to play for the european champions. So the market we are operating in is small. Realistically only a handful of players will be able to strenghten our team. January will be an exciting month. New players will come and some might leave. We know Rafa and his ideas pretty well by now. There is not going to be star signings, big name players with inflated egos is not his way. And as a supporter i really appreciate that. And by doing it like that we get a good team spirit and a nice relationship between the fans, the players and the club.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.
