Hello!

I have been using the search utility of the forum but could not actually find what I was looking for.

I have a couple of questions about Liverpool F.C. and a "demand".

Questions:

a) Who decide the squad numbers in Liverpool F.C.? Rafa? the players themselves?

b) Are the squad numbers something of importance in Liverpool? Is there any retired number of a player of great importance? (Dalglish, Rush, one of those) ?

I ask b) because where Alonso comes from, the numbers are of importance. He's 14 in Liverpool, because he *wants* to be number "4" and "14" is second best. He used to be "4" in Real Sociedad, and so was his father in Real Sociedad and Barcelona. This is my little "demand" Sammy Hyppia, leave the "4" it's a matter of family !

I'm not particularly sure who decides the squad number's, but player's can request a number for sure.

As far as I know, there's no retired number's at Liverpool.

Defo no retired numbers, Smicer wore #7 ffs, and now Kewell.

Perhaps they should have retired it as those 2 aren't fit to lace King Kenny's boots (well maybe Vladi is for his goal and penalty in the CL final)

luis garcia asked for owen,s no 10 shirt when owen left,and gerrard asked for the heskey old no 8 shirt when he left,so i think it is a bit of both ,players asking for shirt numbers and players just getting shirt numbers of the club,i always wondered though why did baros who was a striker get the number 5 shirt

Poor Diouf, probably asked for ANY number last season and got f.uck all!!

I'm assuming that Baros got the number 5 because there was f*ck all else left.
