Spoiled brats? - We've always had great strikers!

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby thegreedo » Wed Sep 14, 2005 11:11 am

Had some friends round for the game last night, upon the final whistle we got into a bit of a debate. A tone emerged throughout the discussion that the Liverpool fans present were a little unhappy about the strength of our current batch of strikers.

Upon hearing this, another mate, a forest fan. Set about telling us how ungrateful we were having enjoyed an almost seemless flow of great strikers over the years from Roger Hunt to Tosh & Keegan, the king, Rush, Aldridge, Fowler and Owen and more in between.

So, upon hearing some of the complaints on the forum today. Is it true? Have we become spoiled brats? Do we expect too much? Or are we well within our rights to expect high standards from Liverpool strikers?

I don't think were spoilt, cos to be at the top level we need top players and at least a striker who will score 20+ goals and let the other chip in.

alright thegreedo?

it's a debate which has been discussed many times on here. we don't have a 20 goal a season striker but i don't necessarily think this is a detrimental thing, as long as we have goals coming from all areas of the pitch we'll be fine.

as i'm sure many are aware, i advocated bringing owen back. forget what happened in the past. from a footballing point of view (purely for the benefit of the team) it made perfect sense. i was not a baros fan and i'm not a huge fan of cisse either. personally i rate sinama pongolle above both of them.

as for morientes, that's a strange one. i keep convincing myself that he'll come good but i even i'm losing patience with him now. the guy's got a proven track record everywhere he's been but for some reason he doesn't seem suited to english football. having said this, he's still the most naturally gifted striker we've got by a country mile.

i think the problem is, after winning the champions league, fans expectations were raised to an unrealistic level. some thought that because we won it we would all of a sudden have millions and millions to spend. football doesn't work like that. we are not newcastle united, who just go out and spend ridiculous money to try and achieve an unrealistic dream.

come january, i think we'll see a new striker. until then we'll have to do with what we've got. at the end of the day it could be worse. we could be everton. :D

dirk kuyt is a class act if we signed him i no for a fact no one of this forum will be dissapointed hes got everything hes more than just your out and out striker he can link up and is sooo confident on the ball but one problem may have hes not the quickest so we need 2 partner him with someone with a lilttle pace but so far the only striker i am happy with is crouch lol it makes me laugh saying it be he could be the buy of the season for us!

After watching his performance last night, particularly in the second half, I tend to think we should save most of our transfer kitty for Joaqim.

Joaquin is the missing link, he's the spark in midfield, I say ring the bank and get a big fook off loan!!!!!!!  :;):

van nistlerooy is not that quick either but he plays the lone striker role brilliantly, you don,t need pace to play the lone role ,you need to have awareness ,first touch ,technique, strength and good link up play

I think morientes would be great if we could get a good RM who could put in a decent cross and of course Riise or Zenden on the left doing the same.
REST IN PEACE PHIL!
