i think its the typical american response. as a race they are very insular and think the world ends at their borders.

i imagine that there are some good people caught up in this but to be honest i hate the whining attitude, looking for someone to blame.how can you blame nature FFS. they had warnings and chose to stay. there were free busses out of town so dont use the ;they had no money' excuse.

its basically a large number of people who stayed "not all of them" just couldnt be @rsed leaving adding to the burden of the tax payers and the rescuers

people in alikes of sumatera, africa, srilanka, and bangladesh are the feet of the world's body, they have to step on sh1ts, cr4ps, sharp rocks, while absorb the world's disasters and misfortunes

that's the way things go, you can't protest against being a head or a tail.

this hurricane get their heads down on earth, have them kiss and smell the sh1ts. somebody's got to do it sometimes in life.

it seems to me like many people didn't leave the centre of the city because they weren't reliably informed of the scale of the hurricane. may were making preparations for the normal size ones they are used to. with this kind of information i might myself be more inclined to stay behind and protect what i have rather than leave it behind to the armed gangs that would inevitably form.

its obviously better that any efforts to fix the situation and help people are conducted by an authority and in an organised effective fashion, but if someone needs to go to the nearest store and grab themselves some drinking water and tinned beans i'm not going to begrudge them that. a TV, on the other hand is a different matter.

i also believe that the stoicism of those in the east is a bit of a myth. they have a hell of a lot to complain about with the absolute lack of warning and delayed aid efforts. no-one in that situation, 1st world or 3rd, is going to take it on the chin and say 'oh, well. no ones fault, i'll just sit tight and do my best'.

at fault here, once again, are the authorities. and suffering, once again, are the average citizen, the poor, the disadvantaged, the disabled, the uninformed. if i was one of them i'd be f*ckin moaning too.

nah mate the yanks saved us years before hitler attacked the russians. if it wasnt for the supplies coming from the states we`d have been starved out in 1940. in fact during the battle of britain when it was touch and go the americans let us use their secret high octane fuel in our planes which gave the spitfires and hurricanes an edge in performance even though they werent fuel injected like the german Me 109`s. their navy escorted our convoys half way across the atlantic when the u-boats had us under the cosh. during the first "happy time" when it looked the the u-boats were going to win because we just didnt have enough escort vessels they also loaned us a 100 old warships ideal for escort duty too. all this was well before pearl harbour. britain owes president roosevelt its existance because he went behind the american peoples back to basically do everything bar send troops. without this aid we would have been forced to surrender - that is a fact mate like it or not. the large german, and especially italian and irish communities in the u.s were dead against the american government getting involved but roosevelt didnt turn his back on us even though it was probably political suicide (he didnt know pearl harbour was around the corner).
by the way whilst this country was fighting for its life russia invaded finland and had a mutual non aggression pact with the nazi`s, they were even in on the german invasion of poland. joe stalin couldnt have given a sh.1te what happened to us until operation barbarossa then it was a case of his enemy is my enemy.
its true the russians probably did more than anyone to crush the nazi`s but the fact remains they didnt help us during those dark days early in the war, and knowing that joe stalin and our establishment came from totally different political persuasions i dont think joe would have shed too many tears at our demise.

While rest of were fighting against forces of evil Nazism, the americans were making a nice profit from that policy of neutrality.
The brits only paid off their war loans to Americans plus interest a few years back for all that aid and those rusty old ships your talking about.

Btw mate the yanks didnt come and save us they were attacked at Pearl Harbour and the Germans declared war on them 3 days later to free up their U-boat campaign

nah mate, the americans were escorting our ships years before 42. its true we had to pay for the supplies but at the end of the day they didnt have to supply us, in fact as i mentioned large communities in the u.s like the irish and italian ones had historical gripes with the u.k so there was outrage in some quarters that they were doing even that.
european nations have been fighting each other since the dawn of time so you can understand the americans not wanting to get involved.
luckily for the u.k they did and without the aid we would have been defeated in months, churchill even said that at one point we were weeks away from starving and that was with the aid.

Hold on here.

Its true that Russia did the lions share of fighting and they did as much as anybody to defeat Germany. The bulk of the Wehrmacht operated on the eastern front and the Russian's killed far more Germans that the Western Allies did.

I laugh when you hear Americans going on about saving Europe by having to go over to Normandy and storming the beaches. The Americans and British made significant military success against Germany, but at the end of the day, it was the Red Army who did the bulk of the fighting.

However, the fact of the matter is that the US, for one reason or another, propped up the allied war effort. This is a fact. The US did not want Britian to fall in 1940, and it did everything it could to prop its ally up, with Lend Lease, convoy escorts and the exchange of some British bases in the Carribean for a large number of old destroyers, which the British used for convoy duty. Germany would probably not have been strong enough to cross the Channel in 1940 or 1941 to invade Britain, but it came close to starving Britain into surrender, and American aid probably was the difference.

The Americans also played a significant part in the Soviet war effort, by supplying it with planes, tanks (which, as it happened, were vastly inferior to that which the Russians had already) but most importantly of all, trucks. The Americans supplied the Russians with a fantastic number of trucks, allowing the Russians to move their infantry around much quicker than the Germans, who had a shortage of trucks and fuel and who relied, in the main, on non mechanised forms of troop movement. This made a huge practical difference on the battlefield, and helped swing the war on the Eastern front in the Russian's favour.

Americans would have you believe that it was the bravery and valour of their soldiers who won the war for the allies. I don't agree with that. The American soldiers fought well, although the were often betrayed by unimaginative and conservative generals, and really it was the Russians who did the most to defeat the Wehrmacht on the battlefield. However, the Americans probably tipped the war in the allies favour by proping up the British and Russians at vital times, and in the end, it was the tens of thousands of American tanks, trucks, planes and ships which rolled off the American assembly lines which won the war as much as anything.

Russians didn't help anybody during the first months of war because if someone doesn't know they made a pact with Nazis and divided Poland into 2 zones, for their pure hegemonic pleasure.
Only thing that turned Russians into "war heroes" was that Hitler knew that Stalin was aiming at attacking Germany, and make all Europe a Soviet sattelites. That's why Hitler attacked Russia, it didn't turn out for Nazis (thank God for that), and Russia was "war heroes".
But if it wasn't for Nazis attack on Russia, we could all speak Russian now tawariszcz.

I'm not whitening Nazis (sick as f.ck these people were) or condemning the role of Russia in winning WWII (they were also sick as f.ck), but the facts need to be put right.

Russia were war heroes because they were pushed to fighting but also weakened enough to stop at Berlin and not claim territories further west.
