Way before the French surrended Paris to the Nazis during WW2 and the Yanks where offically involved in the war, they were suppliing the British with warships on a continuous production line.

In fairness, the French have always got bad press. The French didn't meekly surrender in 1940: they had no choice but to, as they were solidly defeated militarily in the field, just as their British allies were in the same summer, Dunkirk was a catastropic military disaster.

And as for Frenchmen in trenches, they died in their hundreds of thousands in the Great War.

Very true.

A disaster which could have been avoided had Belgium kept their end of the deal.

But Noooo! They had to stick the white flag up to Adolf and let the Jerries march straight through, thereby negating the effect of the Maginot line. (They simply went in behind it.)

Had the Belgian King said "No - f*ck you" like he said he would, then Dunkirk would never have happened.

We can't trust anyone in Europe when the chips are down, no matter WHAT the Politicians say.

America is a decent country, and Americans are for the most part good people.

It's the Christian Right in the U.S. that worries Manhattan.

When they influence political and public policy, then it becomes a concern.

The only problem I have with Americans is their attitude towards the rest of the human race. They think they are better than every one else. Everything they do has to be bigger and better. In my job (taxi driving) we pick up quite a few Americans and although they are good tippers they can be quite snobby. I can can recall one conversation that happened. I picked up a couple who had been in Carrickfergus, sight seeing. They wanted to go into Belfast and go shopping. They chatted away about Carrick castle and about how nice our wee island is and how friendly the people are. When we got onto the M5 the lady said "We have never been on this wee road before. What do you call it?" I said, "Its the M5 love. A motorway. Really? she said. "We have alleyways bigger than this! :D  Thats what I dont like about them.

Agreed Manhattan, the rise of what can only be described as Christian Fundamentalism in the U.S. is positively creepy. How so many people can be influenced by theory is scary. George Bush used this vote as his ticket into the White House so that shows how populist it is.
As for the Yanks showing off about things being bigger, better or different in their country, well we do the same thing, I was in Amsterdam in the Summer and couldn't help thinking as I walked round that they seem to be 15 years behind us. Just because a country is more progressive than another there's no need to be quiet about it.
