Figo, still a possibility?

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby A.B. » Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:03 pm

Just read the last few lines of the following article

Rafael Benitez has refused to be drawn into speculation regarding Milan Baros' Liverpool future.
The Czech star hasn't been involved in either of Liverpool's first two Champions League games this season, with many people suggesting the Reds don't want their player cup-tied ahead of a possible move from Anfield.

Aston Villa continue to be linked with a swoop for the 23-year-old, but for now Benitez is concentrating solely on tomorrow night's game with FBK Kaunas as the Reds look to book their place in the third qualifying round of the competition.

The Liverpool manager insists he is more than happy with Baros contribution to the pre-season campaign so far.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaunas Benitez said: "Milan is a good player, he is working well and scoring goals in pre-season. I am happy with him.

"At the moment I'm thinking about tomorrow's game and not about offers for our players. Whether he plays tomorrow or not it doesn't matter, he is still our player. He is here with us, he is in the squad and gives us another possibility."

Benitez also refused to comment on stories coming out of Spain that the Reds are closing in on a deal for Real Madrid star Luis Figo.

Benitez said: "I have no news. I have been flying this afternoon. All I can say is he is a good player."

:suspect: And I thought the Figo fiasco was all over.

No he's not, he's already said that he's going to stay at Madrid but it seems that reports in Spain say that we're close to signing him.

Then again Owen said he was staying with Liverpool last season :p

Yeah Soccernet.com's front page article just changed to the rafa/figo fiasco.

Well you can blame Houllier for the fact that we didn't sign him in his prime. Apparently, the bloated gasbag said "we don't want players like that". As for Figo, God knows what is going on. Maybe he's treating it like Twister. He's got a dial with Liverpool, Real, Inter and ?. Which ever one it lands on, a story will follow linking him with a move. He should just make up his mind.

i personally don't want figo anymore.....to old for my liking.
i'd prefer to see some young right winger for the future instead!

Yea Rafa must have been looking for new RW/trying new players at RW but efforts were in vain.. therefore now he turns back to Figo and hope that he would still come...

Name one right midfielder that we could sign aside from Figo, one that is young and for the future.

-swp,
-c.ronaldo,
-quaresma,
-de rossi,
-etc.

ok.....so i may have not known many right midfielders that are young, but i'm sure rafa does.
i mean, who heard of barragan and gonzalez before he bought them? ??????

What happened to being realistic?

Are we going to break the bank for Joaquin when we need more than a RM? No

Alves is a fullback but can play RM, not a natural winger[seems like a mercanary]

SWP already joined Chelsea

Ronaldo isn't going to leave Man Utd.

The point of my question was to show that there are not many RM's out there that we can now realisticly buy

and i'm trying to point out that rafa doesn't need to sign players that are recognised by the majority of people.
for example-
-no one heard of barragan but we signed him.
-hardly anyone heard of gonzalez but we still signed him.

therefore it is possible for rafa to still sign a young talented right midfielder quite easily.

Indeed, that's what scout's are for :) I am sure there are a few right wingers that are suitable for Liverpool across the globe. Rafa obviously feels apart from his playing ability Figo would bring great experience and a winning mentality to the team. I am sure it would give all the other players a buzz and many could learn from him .
