Joe Cole is certainly a prospect, but I'm more interested in the news that Duff is not happy at Chelski.......would like to see him out wide for us and Kewell in a free role.  :D

Joe Coles another christian Ronaldo , he wants to beat everyone 3 times , hes selfish with the ball , loses possesion in vital areas of the pitch and game . Hes been over hyped , he might be good enough for West Ham but not Chelsea , Liverpool , or England .  Sven only uses him when it doesnt matter notice .

We could put Gerrard wide right and play Cole in the middle with Hamann. I prefer Gerrard in the middle but that would be a solution to our right-sided problem

I don't rate Joe Cole: he's all style and no substance. For all his brilliant technique he has little else to set him apart.

Gazza was a phemoneon because (in the early days) he could ally power to his skill. Wayne Rooney is the same. Joe Cole does fancy stuff on the fringes of a game, not dictate it.

As for Duff, we missed our chance two years ago.

I reckon we're better off with Kewell than Duff. I do wonder why people wanted us to get Duff when we have such a short striker in Owen..... ??? Duff might also be too much of an injury risk, we've got something like 34 games and 11 goals out of Kewell, what have Chelski got out of Duff?

Duff frightens the living daylights out of teams, thats why.

Some of his performances over the past year for Chelsea and Ireland have been sensational: his goal against Norway for Ireland (he ran the entire length of the pitch) was one of the best I have ever seen. He destroyed Lazion in Rome as well.

Players with Duff's ability only come around once every ten years.

Kewell is great, but Duff is absolutely sensational.

I see your point about his injuries, though.

joe cole is the great enigma of modern day english football. genius one day, rubbish the next. i'd have personally gone in for scott parker a couple of months back. just think- if we'd signed lee bowyer we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Joe Cole was starting to get better last season, playing for West Ham in the middle.

But I've never really been convinced by him, he just reminds of a kid at school trials trying to impress.

Not what we need at this time any way.

yeah our main problem at the moment is conceding stupid goals at the back. individual errors more than anything else.

If Cole do not play for Chelsea is he good enough to play for us? If so, are we happy to build a squad of players who are not good enough to play for our opponents? Then we have truly lost everything. Cole is regarded as a good players only because he is british. It is a mystery to me why all british talents are so higly rated.

Also; what is Cole's strenghts as a player? None in particular. Just an all round solid guy. We need people with unique skills. The pace and trickery of Overmars, the brilliance of Pires. Cole will not solve any problems. He is a central midfielder, a position where Liverpool already have some of their best players. Gerrard and Hamann are world class. And if we should buy a new midfielder, this player should bring in something new. A creative player with pace and flair would fit that bill. But I'd rather see two new centre backs and a experienced striker to play alongside Baros in our squad.
If football is banned in heaven. I'd rather go to hell.

So why Chelsea bought Veron ? Why Milan bought Seedorf ? Why inter signed Vieri ?

Owzat your havin a laugh mate? Duff's s##t hot.

I'd say Kewell is better.... on his day. Duff is the more consistent. He's got a raw direct style with maturity and quality which is something which will win you games. Duff on the left and Kewell just off Owen would be wonderful but that ain't gonna happen.

JBG i think your assessment of Cole was VERY harsh.

I agree he often flatters to decieve but i really do think he has the ability to be an excellent player. As good as Scholes maybe in terms of ability at least. (yes i know he's different but i meant in terms of ability)

There was a game for west ham against Arsenal where he bossed Vieira's ***** all game. I think imo... surrounded by the right players and in the right system with the added confidence of being first choice he could fulfill his potential.

I'd have liked Bowyer when we were linked.

Kewell, Gerrard, Hamann, Bowyer
Kewell, Gerrard, Murphy, Bowyer
Kewell, Gerrard, Bowyer, Murphy

Plenty of shape options and quality. Sadly ffor Bowyer and ourselves though he lacked the attitude to play for us and he now seems to have lost his ability.
