Joe Cole - is there a place for him in the starting 11

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I have to say I have given Joe Cole a bit of a hard time lately after hearing stories that he has not prepared to leave us and was happy to sit on the bench taking the 100k a week.  However after watching him against Young Boys and yesterday at West Ham, I am starting to think that he could prove a very important player for us and even force himself into our starting 11.

I cant remember the last player we had at Liverpool that made such intelligent runs into the box from midfield which he has done in the last 2 games scoring on both occasions.  This is exactly what I would expect oof our more attacking plasyers but so often when we are in the final 3rd their is nobody getting into the box.  Joe does this really well and if he can get his fitness up, I would like to see him in the team more often.   The guy is clearly a talented player, I just hope he still has the drive and determination to want to be a success at Liverpool.
Our job is simple, to support the club, not just parts of the club that are easy to support, but every one who plays a part, that includes ALL players.  We are stronger when we are all walking in the same direction. Walk On

the guy has talents alright...that was never the question. but no, I don't think there is a place for him in the starting 11... Thanks for the goal against West Ham from which we managed to get back into the game. But he is not fit anymore... and there is a question mark on whether he still wants to play the game...

i think he is a great squad player and someone who can come on to help us unlock a defense but not sure he'll ever command a starting spot in the team.

Won't do his chances any harm if he can keep scoring goals and creating some and staying fit.

Before he scored on Sunday he had done precisely d*ck, in fact we lost all momentum when he came on to replace Enrique in the 1st half and West Ham scored 2 goals within 15mins.

He's a goat.

Is there a space for Joe Cole in our starting eleven? If he carries on scoring and performing, then yes, for sure.

And that was the nerve...

For me, whilst Joe Cole is contributing and providing something to the team he is welcome. The two goals he scored recently weren't tap-ins they were good goals, needed goals. He clearly is motivated to succeed, I have seen a few articles now commenting on how he stay on at training to improve, get fit, etc.

I see improvement and whilst I am not comfortable with his salary, if he continues to contribute, improve his form and continues to score then he is welcome to stay.

I tend to agree with The Raven, I would rather see him on the left than Downing

I know people get wound up on his wages, me included, but I suppose you have to look at the whole package.  He cost us nothing so If you add his wages over the length of this contract and how much he cost he probably works out not too bad as long as we get something out of him.  UNfortunately so far this has not happened but I really think a corner is being turned.  His recent runs into space remind me of the way Scholes, Lampard and Freddie Lungberg used to score so many goals - The problem may be its too little too late for Joe especially when you consider his age??
