Joe cole - Love to see him in a red shirt

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby Coley » Wed Mar 03, 2004 5:36 pm

I've heard a bit of talk in the papers about Joe Cole becoming unsettled at Chelsea because if lack of chances in the first team.

I think he would be an ideal addition to the club and can play in a few different positions.  He's English, has bags of experience in the premiership, is young and is very creative.

Sounds like exactly what we need?  Let me know your thoughts.

Cheers

:D

If hes not good enough for Chelsea hes no good to Liverpool . We already have Kewell , Gerrard , and others . Its someone quick at the back thats reqiured .

I would love to see him in the team. Our midfield would be sorted, for a long time cos he is also very young and a future England International. Although I wouldn't pay more than 7 mill for him.

Him and Gerrard in centre mid in a couple of Years would be ideal. But at the minute he's not what we need.

We already have Hamann and Stevey in the middle and he wouldn't improve the side at the minute so its a no i'm affraid.

As for him playing in different positions that bullsh#t. He's a centre mid.

I'm not convinced Joe Cole alongside Steven Gerrard is a good mix;Ithink it would hinder Stevie's rampageing runs because Joe Cole doesn't exactly sit in when the play is heading forward. But you never now,the lad is young and may develop into a quality centre-mid....but is it a gamble to pay big bucks on what might be?

Agree! Joe cole can fit on the rite though he's not exactly a winger but skill and pace can unlock the defence which Murphy, Smicer, Diouf cannt.

Supersub i completely disagree mate. Gerrard needs a creative skillfull player next to him. Not a holding midfielder.

Roy Keane made the same sort of runs and was a very similar player. Gerrard has the ability to get up there then come back and win the tackles aswell.

He needs a player like Cole, Dunn, Le Tallec (in a few years), Scholes for example. Otherwise we'll never move on tactically from where we are now.

The way i see it is you need the right mix.

A winger
A wide midfielder with the ability to score goals
A playmaker
A box to box ball winner

One has to be good at set peices.

We have Kewell as the winger... Gerrard as the box to box and Murphy as the wide player who can take set peices... i'd want to see an improvement here tho... Malbranque :D... Murphy could even be the play maker... but i'd still want an improvement :D

United had those players when they won the treble... thats what we need to emulate. unfortunately.

Murphy gives the ball away too much and has a habit of being caught in possession, but he is a useful player to have in your squad. If he could improve his lapses when in possession, then he would be a good partner to Gerrard. This brings us back to the centre of defence, which needs to be strengthened considerably if we are not to waste a centre midfield player standing guard all game.

Joe Cole would be a great acquisition if we could get him for around the £6m region. Whether he plays wide or in the centre he is a tricky player who can go passed players or unlock defences with a killer ball, he's also got an aggressive streak and not frightened to compete. He definitely wouldn't let us down and he's wasted at Chelsea!

Supersub i agree about Danny but at the min he's the best we have and the fact we are strong in the rest of the midfield i'd say that Centre half and a striker is the priority this summer.

no he is not, and that's why he tended to drift inside creating a huge void of space between the full-back and forward line that was exploited on many occassion by the opposition.

I think he could become a superb centre mid though. Partner Gerrard long term in a red shirt. Nice!!!
