Warnock - Defensively he is the best left back at the club,

That's why I tend to mention these two players as a left sided  unit .
Playing together the sum of their parts adds up to more than their individual worth.

But would it be the old "let them score 3 we'll score more" syndrome ?

I don’t think it would be the case woof.

If you take Baros out and put a left sided midfielder who can also defend, then the formation could be interpreted as a 4-5-1 or a 4-2-4, depending if we have the ball or not.

See that's the main problem with that kind of formation. The only way around it would be to keep the back 4 rigid - not going foward past the half way mark and getting the two wide strikers ( Cisse and Baros ) to drop back into midfield and surge foward with Alonso and/or Gerrard, but then it kind of defeat's the purpose!

I'm sure there's some other possibilities though.

I do fancy the idea of ciise playing wide right ,the problem is you can't expect a fella of his pedigree to do much defending ,however on the plus side the opposition will have to detail AT LEAST two men to stop him cause one on one he can push the ball into space and beat anyone to it.

you hit the nail on the head, he`d be a bit like cally who in his young days would just push the ball into the corners and turn on the afterburners - genuine pace is almost impossible to defend against the only problem is that in the middle of the park there`s no room to ultilise it. thats why henry often floats left to pick up possession and more importantly to find space.
out wide cisse would be devastating if he has retained his pace, but i fear he might end up like owen - still quick but noticably slower than before. i hope i`m wrong but i cant see an injury of that scale not having some affect detrimentally.

I think we'll see 4 or 5 players coming into the club in the summer and there's a good chance that at least 4 or 5 will leave, with one or two high profile departures.

I think we'll see a striker, a defender and probably 2 midfielders come in, at the least. There will be big changes.

I think we will se closer to 10-15 players leaving in the summer. Don't forget the players out on loan.

We will see at least 5 players bought in. A CB, CM, 2 MID,maybe a Striker and a GK.

But its only guess work really.

Rafa has already been quoted as saying that our strong run in the CL will almost certainly lead to several high-profile signings in the summer.

A big clear-out goes without saying

Exciting times :)

Its like all new managers at a big club with a reasonable amount of money to spend and a free reign given to them by the chairman. Within 2 years Houllier had completely changed the face of the club, and I bet that by the start of 2006/07, there will only be two or three survivors from the Houllier era.

Its going to be an interesting summer as Aston Villa and Newcastle have indicated that they have money to spend as well.
