What would you like to see next year?

After watching Luis Garcia recently i think he has really started to get his game on, I reckon he could maybe, just maybe solve our left mid' out with Harry not producing. I think our main problem is at right midfield, Nunez just isn't cutting it at all, not good enough. I have been watching Wayne Routledge and he look's to be a very good player, show's good skill and CAN cross the ball very well. Before you all jump on the bandwagon, I'm not saying we should sign him, just it's worth a look as we would get him for a good price. But, I'm not sure if it's the rest of the Palace team ( no disrespect ) making him stick out as they are not as good. What's your thought's on him? I really would like to see Sean Wright - Phillips sloted in there, but could we pull that one off?

Another player I think we SHOULD go for is Ledley King, I think he would fit in great with Carragher at centre back.

I don't think our problem's are as bad as first thought, the team is now playing well together and I think it's just one or two position's that need sorting.

An ideal team and a realstc one I would like to see next year would be:

                                   Carson

     Finnan            Carragher           King           Riise

Routledge ?           Gerrard              Alonso      Garcia

                       Cisse          Morientes

Let's see your team, or players you'd like us to signe...

I'm not an expert on stats ,but would someone explain to me why so many people keep moving riise back to leftback when all the the time I keep thinking he has been our most effective left mid for many years ? ? ?

Riise, is an enigmatic player. He is short of pace and has poor ball control, both of which limits his ability to beat a man. This makes it hard to use him in an offensive midfield position. His lack of pace also makes it difficult to act as a full back, when he comes up against fast wing men.
However, his strength and determination combined with his powerful left-foot shot allows him to drive forward from the left midfield to great effect

Well done Stu, couldn't you just have ignored it then?

I put this up now because it's drawing to a close ( the league ), all other's I've seen were posted up at the start and half way through the season. I haven't seen one done recently!

Good point woof woof, you could maybe put Garcia in right midfield, move Riise foward and buy a new left back.?

Also, what are your views on Routledge?

Good little player. I mentioned him earlier in the season. He is also a Liverpool fan. Contract is up and I think a tribunal will set a fee beteen 2-3MIL.

He is really small, and doesnt defend very well, so I think I would give it a miss.

Sorry Woof, I thought I had just explained why it is hard to slot the lad in any position.
At the highest level Riise struggles, because he is short in one or two skill areas. However, as genuine left sided players are at a premium, then he is useful and maybe his best role is in left-central midfield, neither wide nor deep, but there he faces competition from faster more skillful, right footed players who can operate with a weaker left foot.
I like him as a player and wish he could develop, but he seems to have reached his peak.

I wouldn't buy a new left back , I'd give the Warnock (lb) and Riise (lm) combination more time to blossom.
They've always looked pretty solid to me (when working in tandem) and have an understanding of each others position.

I honestley feel that the Warnock/Riise combination on our left side is a rough diamond ,just needs a bit more polishing which will come with more experience (ie more time spent together in those roles )

Could agree more about the Warnock / Riise suggestion. I like Warnock's agressiveness, I like to see players who aren't afraid to tackle.

I disagree
Riise's ability to get forward and suddenly pop up in the box has been something that has scared the sh'it out of opposing teams this season. At the same time his understanding of defensive duties has allowed him to provide immense support to whoever is playing behind him (Traore / Warnock)
I feel that his latent offensive capabilities have been undervalued and they outweigh his defensive talent .

I'm not suggesting that he is world class in either position (LB/LM) I do however think that Riise does the job at LM far more effectively than any one else has in recent years and with him in that position we have a solid foundation both offensively and defensively on our left side.

I dissagree too, I think Riise is exceptionally well going faward, better than Nunez. Also I think his first touch is excellent, I seen him controlling some long balls from Alonso with no problems, kept it close and tight to himself. I've noticed recently that he can suck defenders in quite easily, especially yesterday against Spurs, a couple of step overs etc. I think Riise floats superb crosses in too.
