We were two nil up at half-time and I almost cried, it was unbealivable. If you had told me that we would outplay a world class side and be up by two goals I wouldn't had called you crazy because on our day we can achieve anything however it was unexpected. The fans were absolutely superb through out the whole game but the downside of all this is that Juventus got their away goal.
And it was all because of another goalkeeper blunder, yet it was not by Dudek it was Carson whose had a superb game prior to that. [Ian Rush once said that it's best a striker because you score one and you're a hero but while as a goalkeeper you can play a blinder and if you let one in you're a villian. That's the case now in a way.] Now because of that everything hangs in the balance.
I think we made a mistake by taking our foot off the pedal in the second-half, we should had went for the third goal because had we done that it would had been a different story. However we start defending too much and let Juventus slow the game down which is when they play at their best. 2-0 is one of the most dangerous results in football as at that time the players start thinking "it's all over" when they should be going for the knockout punch.
Am I rulling us out? Hell f#cking no, most people thought we wouldn't even win the game however Juventus are masters of "1-0" result and all we need to do in the next game is score the goal.
Notes:
Baros is going to be sold. He was poor imo, too many times he was dispossed off the ball easily by the Juventus defenders, I was expecting a far more better performance from him. Yes he ran his socks off in the first-half but lost the balls cheapily at times when he shouldn't had and that made me tick. Maybe I am being to harsh however like Benitez said before the match Baros owed us one and I was hoping for a better performance than this one. Basically he needs to score more as he is the striker, and the only striker we have available in the CL.
Man Of The Match IMO: Luis Garcia, he was absolutely everywhere. Three goals in two games? Fantastic, he is really impressive in Europe and I'm sure he'll continue to improve.
I was angry at first after Juventus scored as all you were I'm sure but we shouldn't write ourselves off especially with Xabi Alonso returning for the second leg.
Neverton are you watching?
