Baros to be used as bait

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I wish he could have performed like he does for the czechs I like him i think he works very hard but I really think he wont be a Liverpool player next season.

Baros will not be able to play in the Premiership until April 20 at Portsmouth, leaving him just five league matches left this season.

But with the Champions League quarter-final against Juventus on Tuesday, and the return in Turin a week later, Baros will be an automatic choice because former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes is cup-tied and Benitez has an injury crisis among his other forwards.

"Since Milan received his red card we have talked about the situation and now he says he wants to do his best for the team, the club and the fans against Juventus," said Benitez.

"We have lots of striking problems - they are the same for the league as well as the Champions League but just the names change.

"Milan can't play in the league for a while and Fernando can't play in the Champions League. They will swap."

Baros has been on World Cup duty with the Czech Republic this week, scoring against both Finland and Andorra to take his tally to 18 goals in 27 internationals.

If he had managed anything like that consistency for Liverpool, Benitez would probably not be considering selling him in the summer as part of a major Anfield revamp.

But for now he needs the striker as Djibril Cisse, Neil Mellor, Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Harry Kewell are all injured, although Cisse believes he could be fit to play in the last month of the season after recovering from his broken leg.

Valencia want Baros, and their caretaker manager Antonio Lopez has said: "Baros would bring force to our attack and make a great contribution to Valencia."

Benitez declined to discuss what will happen in the summer but may well want a swap deal with his former club involving Mista, Vincente or Pablo Aimar.

But before that takes place he would like a consistent contribution from Baros in Europe as Liverpool fight to reach an improbable semi-final.

Serie A duo face Baros competition Sunday 3 April, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Milan Baros has long been of interest to Palermo and Sampdoria, but Valencia have now confirmed they are preparing a bid.

The Liverpool striker has found it difficult to find space at Anfield Road, even after he was top scorer for the Czech Republic in Euro 2004.

He had been linked with Fiorentina in January, but Palermo and Sampdoria have emerged as the main candidates to capture him in the summer.

However, today Valencia came out of the woodwork with official confirmation of their own interest in the forward.

“We are very interested in him,” said director of sport Eduardo Macia in the Spanish Press. Coach Antonio Lopez added, “Baros would be an excellent reinforcement for our squad.”

Palermo and Sampdoria

I have better chances of winning the lottery than him going to Palermo and Sampdoria. What two great clubs to play for.................

Sampdoria are 5th in Serie A and only 3 points of Inter for 3rd...old club with huge following.

i can't for the life of me see why we would want to let baros go. It would be such a loss. no one can turn a defender like he can, i've never seen anyone do it that well, on a sixpence.

Ok his scoring/ shooting leaves a bit to be desired but thats something to be sorted out in the training ground.

big mistake selling him.

I mean who are we gonna buy as a replacement? no one knows how well Cisse will perform next year.

Baros will be fine at pretty much any club in the Premiership where his general attitude will go down quite well but this is Liverpoool, Footbal Club and we are different and attitude matters as much as ability.

Lets wait and see just how many Prem clubs bid for him , then we will get an indication of how highly he is rated in England shall we. My guess is the best he can hope for in England is Boro or perhaps Villa but you can bet your house on it that the Big 3 won't come knocking ???

Hiya Canadian. The thing is I don't think even Villa will want him mate. He impresses at international level thats not for discussion but at the Prem level he lacks the finishing skills. Compared to Owen , Morientes and many strikers currently plying their trade in the prem he doesn't  even come near them.

His problem may be that he has a reputation for being tempramental and well a bit of a mercenary playing for himself first and foremost. that may be an uunfair tag but it's what people geberally perceive him to be and his outbursts this season have compounded that opinion of him and that may affect his chances of a move to another Premiership club ....

Why would Villa want him when they have a better striker who can shoot and head muc better with a reasonably good touch in Angel?

baros will not fit into the liverpool 1st team, for one very simple reason, the style of play for liverpool now , is kind of like a run and gun style of play, or for simple, touch and go, baros like to hold on to the ball in the middle of the field and dribble, that will nv be easy in premiership as the mid field will be crowded. cisse and moro combination will have a larger effect as both are not selffish and they can play touch and go soccer... which is liverpool present style of play.
