ok i have seen a lot of people post a lot of new topics like what if this had happened. well i wanna post a new topic of what could have happend in the 02/03 season. ok well the season begins with a frenzy world cup 2002, senegal were the surprise package and liverpool interested in diouf and diao, however when diouf comes to agree personal terms with liverpool over his £10 million move he goes out clubbing in liverpool gets drunk and gets involved in an altercation thus leading to his possible transfer being scrapped, GH decides not to gamble on diao and cheyrou and instead opts for the summer coups of Duff £15 million and Anelka £10. the season begins with the community shield opener between liverpool and arsenal, liverpool are beaten 1-0 in a close contest with duff making an impressive debut, the season begins away at aston villa and win 1-0, the following sat is the 1st home game against southampton and duff makes a scoring home debut in a 2-0 win, this is follow up by 3 straight victories against blackburn away and newcastle and birmingham at home thus ensuing liverpools best ever start to a premiership season, the champs lge is going quite good after being outclassed in the 1st game away at valencia, a draw against basle, back to back wins against spartak moscow and a draw against valencia in the penultimate game leaves liverpool needing a draw against basle in final game of the group to be sure of a place in the 2nd phase, liverpool then draw at bolton 2-2 with milan baros scoring a brace thus ending liverpools 100% record, another disappointing draw against west brom is followed up by a defeat away to man city losing 1-0, michael owen coming under fire for missing a host of chances, liverpool then lose their 1st prem game away to boro due to a dudek clanger, liverpool then play basle for a place in the 2nd phase of the champs league, liverpool trail 3-0 at half time due to a disastrous performance and dudek peforming hopelessly, owen is replaced by anelka and anelka bags a brace and sets up baros in the final min of the game to take liverpool thru. owen is then dropped for the next game at home to sunderland with liverpool drawing 1-0 thus meaning they have taken only 3 points of a possible 12 but still remain early pace setters, a defeat away to fulham leaves GH fuming and yet another calamity showing from Dudek leads to his axe and being replaced by kirkland for the next game again man utd, liverpool go behind early in the game but owen comes off the bench to grab the points for the reds, this is then followed by victories against charlton and sunderland putting liverpool back on track, fast forward to march and liverpool are in the champs league of quarter finals and 2nd in the prem only 2 points behind arsenal, liverpool trail 2-0 from the 1st leg away at inter milan and the return leg 2 be played at anfield, vieri grabbin both goals, GH opts for all out attack wiv 3 attackers owen baros and anelka and each of em score on 1 of the great nites of european football at anfield setting up a semi final tie against AC milan, man utd face juventus in the other semi afer overcoming real madrid setting up potential all england affair at old trafford, liverpool and arsenal are the only teams left in the title race wiv only 2 points between them, liverpool lose away to everton and fall 5 points behind with only 4 games to play, bookmakers have stopped taking bets and arsenal favourites to retain crown, however arsenal draw away to bolton, home to man utd and lose at home 2 leeds giving them 2 points out of 9, liverpool, liverpool beat charlton courtesy of a last gasp goal frm hyypia, beat west brom 6-0 wiv owen getting 4 goals and draw wiv man city leaving them level on points going into the last day of the season, odds are against liverpool away 2 chelsea and arsenal r home 2 southampton, chelsea put out a reserve side as they have already gained champs lge qualification, liverpool grind out 1-0 victory giving them 1st win over chelsea at stamford bridge in the prem, arsenal are held to a draw thanks to a last gasp goal from james beattie, liverpol are crowned champions, amidst all this liverpool gain a 2-0 advantage over ac milan in the 1st leg of home in the semi final of the champs league but are outclassed away losing 5-1, leaving for an all italian final, liverpool finish 1st in the prem, lose 2 crystal palace in 4th round of fa cup, lose 2 sheff utd in semi final of worthington cup and lose to ac milan semi final champs league who turn out 2 be eventual winners via shootout........
it all could have happend
all was needed was a little less naivety by GH in transfer market and signing anelka and duff instead of Diao diouf and cheyrou

Sometimes we have to take 1 step backwards to move 2 step forwards.

If houllier had signed  duff & anelka, he would have still had a job here but i don't think we would have won the league.

He would have prob sold duff to blue sh1t becos he is not a team player. And he follows that up with letting anelka go on a free.....

My take is the awful last season we had is a silver lining..... good times are just around the corner  :D

true but over the past 5 or 6 seasons the 02/03 campaign was our best ever chance to win the title, man utd were under strength at the start, arsenal under strength at the end, chelsea had no sugar daddy, we made great progress going from 4th to 3rd to 2nd, the 00/01 treble season and 01/02 season were our best over the last decade or so, but having said that i believe the rafalution is gaining steam and things can only get better  :D

i probabily will get hammered for saying this, but i think we got 2nd because the scums gave up. The scums knew they were not gonna win the league and just started to lose/draw their last few games. Then suddenly we were 2nd.

Houllier takes too much credit for that (my view only). The damage was already done against leverkuson. And it carried on from there....
