Parry on Benitez.

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby hawkmoon269 » Tue Feb 01, 2005 12:06 pm

The following news from lfc.tv shows at least the board are being relistic, if some of the fans arn't.

Liverpool Chief Executive Rick Parry has revealed the depth of his admiration for the job Rafael Benitez has done at Anfield since taking charge seven months ago.
Parry is delighted with the work of the former Valencia coach and believes reaching the Carling Cup Final could herald the start of a glorious new era at the club.

"It's not just the fact we've reached a major final which has made Rafa's start so impressive," Parry says.

"It's the whole package and all the work he's done since he arrived. It's possible some of the results he achieved early raised expectations a bit too early.

"During the summer, everyone was talking about this being a season of transition and stressed how the new manager needed time. It seems to me this all went out of the window last week and suddenly we are in a 'crisis' again. The common sense had gone.

"Reaching the League Cup final last week was what you could call the highlight of a classic week, given the disappointments of the previous few days.

"The League Cup was a springboard for success in 2001 and gave the supporters a great day in 2003. Hopefully we can repeat that again.

"For Rafa to reach a major final in his first season is a great achievement, and no-one at Liverpool would belittle that.

"At the same time, while there was a lot of guff written following our FA Cup exit, even though we're all absolutely delighted to be going to Cardiff, we will not be deflected from our primary objective which is success in the Premiership and Champions League."

I think Parry, hit it on the head here.  A lot has changed, and a lot still needs to be done.

The team is more inventive in their set pieces - some of which have been ingenious.  Buying Alonso and Morientes were master strokes.  The style of play is better, although some members of the team need to work on their ball control and passing!

When we all take off our rose-coloured glasses, we can see that this will not be a quick process of turning the mediocracy into a championship winnning team.  It will be a gradual process to address the 15 years of rot.  But in Benitez, I know we have the right man for the job - he eats, drinks and sleeps football.  He even has his wife learning about the Shankly/Paisley era.

As Shankley said: 'I was only in the game for the love of football
- and I wanted to bring back happiness to the people of Liverpool.'

I only hope that Parry realises that he needs to do more himself to bring happiness to the people of Liverpool.  Investment needs to be attracted, and soon.

I've an idea.  Why doesn't Robbie Fowler trade in all his property in exchange for Liverpool football club.  He can get his old number 9 jersey back and be back in the team in time for the champions league games.

We are very unlikely to find substancial investment while Parry is trying to secure his position in any take-over deal.

Ok look at it from parry's point of veiw he is trying to milk it for everything it is worth, would we be any different if we wasnt fans ,i'm not saying its right because its bloody damn shamefull but he is a businessman and he wants whats best for him not LFC its all easy for us to see the right option because we look through red blinkers but i think LFC is just a source of income for the board at the moment yeah we may have lost 20 odd mil last year but we will make that up double this year just by the being better on the eye,Sorry to say it but unless we get an offer which is worth double of what the club currently is, Parry and co will not accept it.

Agreed, it has to be an offer that leaves not room for Parry to maneuver - Moores needs to be able to accept it without Parry's advise.

Damed if I know what that is - apart from all out take over, buying Moores out at an over the odds amount.

I am getting sick to death of your constant rants and raves. If you have nothing productive to post about the club, then stick to General chat and stop with the whingeing and moaning about Rafa and the club.

The signature you employ says it all, and I for one am sick to the back teeth with your pessemistic outlook on Rafa.

Get a grip, and stop posting in Football areas if its always going to be total rubbish.

Who do you support Roberts ??

roberts do you think benitez was going to take over liverpool and win the league in his first season?
teams dont sack managers when there`s nothing wrong.
the man has shown me in six months he is prepared to play the game in the right manner, and after sitting through the houllier tenure usually bored shitless i`m prepared to give the man at least five years because even if we dont win the league at least i`ll see a game of football and not the ****** tennis served up under houllier.

No i didnt expect it in the first season, he needs to finish 4th and win something at the very least this season.
He needs 3 years to win the league but if we are finishing lower than we did under Houllier then its not going to happen is it?
