Houllier criticises lack of nerve

Wolves 1-1 Liverpool
Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier says his side lost their nerve as they let in a late equaliser in the draw with Wolves.
With time ticking away, a row between Paul Ince and Steven Gerrard needed referee Barry Knight to issue a lecture before calm was restored.

Seconds later Liverpool cracked and Kenny Miller scored his second crucial goal in the space of a couple of days.

"You have to stay calm and keep your focus, but we lost our concentration and our nerve," said Houllier.

Houllier also believed that referee Barry Knight wrongly awarded the corner that led to Wolves' equaliser after Bruno Cheyrou had given the Reds the lead in the first half.

The guy can score, has pace, power and is a good passer of the ball

"But I cannot blame the referee for the draw, I blame ourselves for not finishing clinically enough," he said.

"We had enough chances to have won that game, Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Danny Murphy - twice - could have finished it before they scored.

"We should have had two more points from that one."

Quite simply we have plenty of problems both scoring and conceding

Goals scored in league games

0 - 4 games
1 - 9 games
2 - 4 games
3 - 5 games

So we've failed to score more than one goal in 13/22 league games this season. (59.1%)  That means we're reliant on keeping a clean sheet to win or not conceding more than one to draw. Trouble is we've conceded 1 or more goals in 16 games this season (72.7%) hence the problem with results

Goals conceded in league games

0 - 6 games
1 - 9 games
2 - 6 games
3 - 1 games

That in itself doesn't mean much but this probably sums it up

Results by number of goals scored

0 goals - W0 D3 L1 (W 0.0%)
1 goal - W2 D2 L5 (W 22.2%)
2 goals - W2 D1 L1 (W 50.0%)
3 goals - W5 D0 L0 (W 100.0%)

Results by number of goals conceded

0 goals - W3 D3 L0 (W 50.0%)
1 goal - W6 D2 L1 (W 66.7%)
2 goals - W0 D1 L5 (W 0.0%)
3 goals - W0 D0 L1 (W 0.0%)

We've not scored 2 or more goals often enough (40.9%) and conceded 2 or more goals too often (31.8%). We have only lost once this season 0-1

We clearly had the chances the other nite.

It was down to bad finishing and we got what we deserved. Simple as that. Danny Murphy takes the one where he hit the post or Kewell is unselfish and passes to Owen and 2-0 your home and dry then you don't complain.

Houlliers fault thought that Kewell's a greddy c#nt isn't it. :)

A lot of "ifs" and "buts" there Stu.

Houllier signed Kewell....

Missing chances counts for nothing in my book. Unlucky doesn't come into it. The object of the game is to put the ball between the posts and score, failure to do so cannot often be blamed on "luck". If we had so many chances then why did we not convert more than one??!?!??!?!

The lads need shooting practice - we should line them up and let them shoot Houllier!

Har har.

I hate this missing chances/we should have scored if only Kewell had laid ther ball off/if Murphy's goal had gone in we would have been 2-0 up etc nonsense.

Missed chances and what ifs count for nothing.

You either score goals and win games or you don't.

Its as simple as that.

I'm sick of Houllier's Alastair Campbell/New Labour spin doctoring......I just want a manager who calls a spade a spade and shoots from the hip.

Funny how Arsenal and manu miss chances and still win games and league titles.

You generally get out of a game what you put in,missed chances are just that.I missed winning £11 million on the lottery by picking only 3 correct numbers,I was unlucky...it's not fair...I blame Guinevere.
