Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

If I am not mistaken Morientes has to be the most famous player to join us in the last 5 years, ok we have had some crackers in the past, Owen, fowler etc but they all came through our youth system, I dont think we have ever signed a big star, ok Cisse was well known but hes young and only for his injury we will never know how good he could or would have been.
Just that name Fernando Morientes brings a grin to your face, how many times have we heard that name in the world cup, euro, or CL games from commentators, and now hes going to be playing for our great club.
I know he will need time to fit in the squad and he hasnt played an awful lot lately so maybe a few games to get match fit, then start banging the goals in.
We have been so unfortunate this season with all the injuries so far, but its not all bad as we are still in all 4 competitions and 5th in the league with new players and a new manager, so the players that where there originally carra, sami and co, have had a major change and turn around aswell as us fans.
Our big problem has been injuries to our strike force and a shaky leaky defence from our defenders getting used to this zonal marking, I cannot comment on that one as I dont have a clue about it whether its a good or bad thing or not.

Hopefully 2005 will be our turning point and we finish in the top four and not 30 points behind the leaders again, maybe win 1 or 2 cups I would love us to win the F.A. cup and maybe the CC, I would love to say the CL but I dont think we can this season as we dont have the proper resorces yet.

Benitez is our man he will bring us success I like his attitude he doesnt take no prisoners nor does he do nothing but friggin moan like fergie and wenger :glare: .
And so what if we end up with a team full of spaniards as long as we win games and win honours I dont care what nationality they are.

Another bit of good news from merseyside today is likey that Tommy Gravo will be going to Real :D , hes evertons Gerrard and they will miss him terribly, so they will be really threatening with zinedine kilbane I must say, and the longer they have cup runs the better cause Moyes has no one else to put out only his first team, so burn out and injuries due there.

Im wondering if anyone else will join us before the transfer window closes? We shall see, and its a real shame that one of our best players is injured Xabi hes been the best signing till now and I cant wait till all our players are back fit, and playing some fantastic enjoyable football what we have all been waiting for.
Starting on saturday against the mancsh#te.
Cmon you Reds Y.N.W.A.

Nice post.

I always liked the Mighty Mullet Litmanen.  Such a gifted, naturally class player.

Didn't get a fair crack of the whip did he, Lynds?

Certainly does and the bluenoses paid more for Beattie,
RVN and Ferdinand have been worth the money tho for the mancs no doubt about that one even tho  hate there guts they are still good players.
I think it was time for new faces at anfield aswell, the players Houllier brought none of them cheered us up Diouf :glare:  what puzzels me on Houllier buying him was that he was only going to buy Diao and bought him aswell WHY?
He left Baros rotting on the bench we are lucky hes still with us, but no point crying about the past hey, this is the future and it sure is looking bright up till now.
We have started winning away from home too which is good news all round, dropped some silly points at Villa and against pompey but its happened now, we will just have to start winning games from now on even if we play poor some times I dont care as long as it brings us 3 points.

Litmannen was a big star, though his star had faded when he joined us, and had faded further when he left.

Babbel was a star name as well, in that he arrived at his peak and could have had his pick of clubs in Europe: thats no exageration as Man UTD and Real Madrid both tried to sign him.

Cisse in many ways was a huge signing, as he was an "acknowledged" young star (along with Ibrahimovich, Cassano etc) that a lot of clubs in Europe coveted.

However, there is a glamour and glitz to Morientes that we haven't seen come in to Anfield in many's a year.

I know johnny Litmanen was a good little player but Houllier shipped him out aswell we could have had another 2 good seasons from him.
And this Pellegrino fella I know hes 33 but look at what Gary Mac brought us at his age, he really got the team going spured us on, remember his 40 yarder in the derby gerrin what a beauty.
Fantastic season that was for us, then it all went down hill :(

What a day! I hope that Morientes will be able to pass the medical and play against Man Utd.
