Morientes signs! - You heard it here first

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Considering how well Milan plays for the Czechs alongside a target man - Jan Koller - he should be able to form a great partnership with Morientes. And Morientes is a better player and finisher than Koller.

What excites me most about the arrival of Moro is that he is a superior version of the type of striker Rafa likes to have spearheading his teams: a target man who can also play on the deck and score goals. At Valencia, Rafa had Carew and then Mista up front. Morientes is a far better player than either of those two. Can't wait to see him in a Liverpool shirt!

ON THE BBC SPORT WEBSITE NOW

Real Madrid have confirmed they have agreed a £6.3m deal with Liverpool for their striker Fernando Morientes.
Morientes, 28, has agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract and will sign subject to a medical on Thursday.

The Spain international could then complete his move in time to make his Reds debut at home to Manchester United in Saturday's Premiership game.

Liverpool will pay £5.5m initially but the fee will rise to the full asking price depending on certain clauses.

Those clauses are believed to be linked to the striker making a certain number of appearances for Liverpool.

Morientes' agent Gines Carvajal said: "The player has agreed a four-and-a-half year contract and he is delighted to be joining as great a club as Liverpool."

A Real Madrid released to www.realmadrid.com on Wednesday said: "Real Madrid and Liverpool have reached an agreement for the transfer of Fernando Morientes to the English club for a total price of £6.3m.

"This afternoon the player will travel to Liverpool to undergo a medical thathe will have to take tomorrow morning.

"The club also has also confirmed that Fernando Morientes, accompaniedby (vice-president) Emilio Butragueno and (sporting director) Arrigo Sacchi willhold a press conference to announce his departure to the Premier League."

it really puts the overpricing of english players into perspective when you consider that everton paid 6m for beattie and norwich paid 3m for dean ashton. :D

new song for morientes on saturday.

to the tune of "fernando" by ABBA  :D

....................................................................................

He can score goals from the left or right against the sh#te Fernando.

Oh he came to us from Real Madrid for a stupid bid Fernando.

Perez is probably still fuming though why did they let him go ??? Fernando.

In front of goal he always keeps his cool scoring for Liverpool. Fernando.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANTY NEWS, IM DELIGHTED WE GOT HIM, THINGS WERENT LOOKING GOOD WHEN LUXEMBURGO TOOK`OVER, BUT ITS BRILLIANT NEWS FOR US!

1) its the type of signing that will please steven gerrard and milan baros cos lets face it any more wasters sign and them too could both pick n choose what club they want to go to!

2) morientes is an old fashioned centre forward who will stay in the box, how many times have we been on the attack and cross something into the box with nobody there!

3) hes great in the air, apart from nunez we dont have anyone good in the air when were on the attack, hyppia is too far back to be considered!

4) he will compliment baros perfectly, rafa and the other spaniards will also help him settle in more!

5) hes a winner who has tremendous experience at the highest level!

does anyone know the rules for registering a player for the weekend game against manure, when does he have to be registered in time for?
