Carragher blasts referee riley

Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

Postby lakes10 » Mon Jan 03, 2005 1:06 pm

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has accused referee Mike Riley of mistakes which could tilt the Premiership title race in Chelsea's favour.
Carragher was angered by Riley failing to award a penalty after Tiago's handball in Chelsea's win at Anfield.

He also highlighted a hotly-disputed penalty Riley gave Wayne Rooney in Manchester United's clash with Arsenal.

"He has got it wrong in the two big games he has refereed this season," said Carragher.

"Those two decisions could prove the difference between Arsenal or Chelsea winning the league.

"If Arsenal had got the right decision at Old Trafford, who knows what might have happened then?

"Top games need top refs. And with those mistakes the FA have to ask whether this referee should be up there.

"He was in a great position to see what happened in our game.

"He was putting his whistle into his mouth and I don't know if he lost his nerve or what."

About time someone said something about Riley!

We would have still won.

As for the comment on Wayne Rooney, ok, maybe that penalty he awarded us wasn't a penalty...but we deserved one later in the match, which we did not get, so...

All the focus was on the fact that he gave us a penalty which wasn't a penalty, but everyone seems to forget the fact that we should have been awarded one later.

When I saw who was refereeing the game, straight away, I thought "Why on Earth is he refereeing a big match like that?!"

Actually looking back, i am in favour of chelsea winning the league.... I don't ever want the scums to win it anymore. And who knows if arsenal does not win it, henry & viera might go to real madrid   :D .....

but riley is a dickhead...

I read that and I'm happy someone on the team spoke up.  Rafa simply refuses to raise a red flag against the referees, which is very respectable, but we can't lay back and take this ****** anymore.  Carragher did a good job because he asked the right questions without calling him a ********

Im right Carragher said what he said, and its good the way he said it, meaning he wont get a FA charge for speaking the truth about Mike Riley favouring certain teams

Anyone heard what Carragher told Riley in the tunnel (during half-time)? He seems very animated...

No you have mistaken. That squeling sound you heard was Gary Neville's mating call

Be intrestin to see if Carra gets into trouble for that, esp if riley gets the deserved 'break' after his peers meet. I reckon Carras one player we would miss should he get suspended for his outburst.

Beside the Hillsborough Flame, I heard a Koppite mournin, "Why so many taken on that day?" Justice has never been done. But their memory we'll carry on. There'll be Glory Round The Fields Of Anfield Road

Riley is a c0ck who deserved the barracking from Carragher.  He's no top draw referee in my eyes.

If Rafa was to blast a ref he would get charged by the FA like many other managers who showed the refs a piece of their mind. The FA is overprotecting the refs and not punishing them for their stupid stupid mistakes.
