I would be gutted if we blew what little money we have left on aimar during the transfer window. I agree he has a lot of qualities and a great touch but i think most agree we are desperate for an out an out striker. We have second strikers coming out of our ears and although Mellor and Pongo are doing a decent job, we need someone who can take some of the workload from Milan + give us options when the lad is out injured (he is after all, the most kicked man in the EPL)

+ 8mill in today's market hardly makes him a steal. I hope we Rafa looks elsewhere

Both reports are total rubbish.

i wouldnt say total rubbish Leon:

heres the latest on Aimer courtesy of bbcsport

Valencia midfielder Pablo Aimar wants to move to England and join former boss Rafael Benitez at Liverpool.
Argentine international Aimar, 25, is not a regular in the Valencia side under Claudio Ranieri, the former Chelsea manager.

The midfielder told the Daily Star: "This season I'm not happy at Valencia.

"Rafa Benitez is an excellent coach who knows me very well and Liverpool would be an ideal place to go if I cannot sort out my future here."

Last season Aimar was part of the Valencia side that won both the Spanish league title and the Uefa Cup.

The Argentine added: "I do not understand why I have not been playing. Ranieri has not told me the reasons but I am obviously not part of his plans.

"From what I can see, English football is the best in Europe next to Spain and I do not think I would have a problem adapting to the Premiership."

so maybe there is something to it after all?
and looking a bit deeper into it i cant see why he cant be a class signing for us

Dawson if we sign him I will show my @rse on the top of the stairs to block 203 on the Kop.

This is on the Valencia website:

And to the very bast of my O-Level spanish skills, it says:

The Valencia Club of Soccer has placed in contact with Pablo Aimar who has communicated that has carried out ningunas statements to no English media neither has granted any interview in the last days.  Besides, the Valencia Club of Soccer also wants to contradict the information that collects the official web of the Liverpool in which is affirmed that the English club has done an official offering on our player Pablo Aimar.  In the same information also they are attributed him some statements al spokesman of the Club, Augustine to Die which never has spoken for no English media.  The real explanation of it happened is that the official web page of the Liverpool, www.liverpoolfc.tv, has done itself echo, of incomprehensible form, of this supposed news that was published in foroche.com December 28 , day of the innocent saints, and that evidently formed part of the inocentadas typical of that day.

Aimar won't be joining Liverpool anytime soon.

Where's all the money coming from?

It now looks very possible that we'll sign both Anelka and Morientes in January and those to will set us back around 15 or 16 million.

Chances are a cut price defender like Pellegrino will join them, not Aimar.

well we'll see. from what ive heard aimer is more or less a done deal. ranieri has slagegd him off publicly telling rafa that aimer is too weak for the permiership. now aimer has come out publicly and said that hed love to play for liverpool as he respects rafa a lot. 12 million euros has been quoted around. I think Moruientez is also a done deal at 7 million and we wouldnt spend the 10 million plus that man city would want for anelka. You have to remember that man city still owe 5 mill on anelka so would not sell him for less than 9 or 10 minimum.
Pellegrino i think will come on a free though.
Thats just what i heard and read, nothing is fact yet.
but block 203 leon? hehe

From what I've heard a deal for Anelka is most likely to go through first, regardless of other deals. The French press are speculating that he'll put pen to paper on Sunday, and that reinforces what I've been hearing for the past month.

it really surprises me that we're going to for 2 top strikers (anelka and morientes) considering that cisse will be back next season. seem like we'll have an overload of strikers. i'm all for ahving a great strength in depth in the squad but it would make more sense, to me, too spread that strength over other areas. i just can't see them both coming.

I agree Andy. I thought it was crazy two weeks ago when some people said we sign both players but from what I've heard, thats what the club is looking at.

However, despite Morientes' comments we are a long way off reaching a deal with Madrid and I wouldn't yet rule out another club like Arsenal or Chelsea hijacking the move.

Mourinho has retracted his earlier comments and has now said that he will buy in January, and I'd be slightly wary of Chelsea gazumping us, even though Mourinho has said he's in the market for midfielders, not forwards.
