Liverpool Football Club - General Discussion

I think most people on here, and who take even a passing interest in football would agree that we are making big progress. OK, Houllier doesn't agree but so what? Small men make small noises. But given our problems financially, with injuries and lack of squad depth etc, I am of the opinion that Rafa is one of the managers of the season sofar (behind Moyes who must be the clear leader to be fair). Our football has been exillerating at times and our efforts to keep the season going with only half a side, nothing short of heroic.
Why is it then, that whenever you watch the telly or read a paper its "the problems continue at Liverpool, shaky defence, lightwieght attack, long way to go etc etc. When are they gonna give us any credit FFS. Heres a couple of headlines if they're stuck:

LIVERPOOL BEAT ARSENAL WITH NO STRIKERS.
CARRAGHER- THE MOST IMPROVED PLAYER IN THE PREMIERSHIP?
BENITEZ- COULD HE BE THE NEW SHANKLY?
ZONAL DEFENCE-WHY DOES NOBODY MENTION IT ANYMORE?
ALONSO AND GERRARD-POTENTIALLY THE BEST MIDFIELD PAIRING IN THE WORLD.
I tell you this, if Van Horseface was injured, along with Saha, Rooney and Smith, and Ferguson played some kid up front, along with squad men throughout the team and then won? Jesus he would be the manager of the century. Tactical genius? they would make him head of the British Army.
Benitez does it, has it even been mentioned since in the media? Don't think so. It's a joke.

I tend to agree, but to be objective, its a bit early yet to liken Benitez to Shankly (I know you aren't really doing that Mick, you're saying he could have a similar impact).

Still early days in Benitez' career here, and although we've gone around more than a third of the way through the season now, I honestly think that the league table hasn't got much shape to it yet, aside from those at the very top and the very bottom.

We and Newcastle will finish a lot higher than our current positions, although Newcastle really need to get their house in order.

I watch the the Irish version of MOTD on saturday nights and they really have it in for Benitez.Same thing every week, poor tactics, poor defenders,Steve Gerrard should get himself out of Anfield as soon as possible etc.Even when we win they manage to find the negatives. You wonder sometimes if your watching the same match.English media is much the same.

Know what I mean though JBG? We get lettle or no coverage and I think we are doing amazingly well. We have a chance to qualify for the next stage of the Champions league on Wednesday with a 1-0 win and with what? Mellor up front. Couldn't get a game at West Ham in front of Brian Deane and pursued hotly by Neil Warnock for 500k. An absolutely incredible achievement in my view.

two words Mick, F*ck them.

in fact i prefer it like this (under-rated etc). Dark Horse and all that. if we were hyped, people's expectations may rise. then failure becomes easier.
its not the chilli sauce on kebabs that give you ring-sting, its the actual meat. had one without chilli, and still had ring-sting. the chilli's only there to mask the nonsense they stuff inside that bread.
