I'M NOT SAYING SELL GERRARD OK! Please read this bit first twice.
Right, now thats out of the way, Stu mentioned on an earlier post the consequences and potential benefits of selling Stevie. I thought I'd have a go at his scenario. Assuming we've just sold Stevie to Chelski for 35 million (less than he's worth in my view) and that the manager gets given all the money. What do you do with it?
First thing, we need a couple of strikers.
Morientes- I think you'd have to go to about 10 million to permanently aquire his services. Most would agree he's a top player.
Robert Earnshaw- about 4 million if you get in in january. We've done the arguments to death. I rate him and think he will continue to score goals whether we sign him or not. Almost everybody disagrees except taff but there you go.
We need a couple of midfielders.
I'd look at Graveson. Stop laughing! I think he's a good player and would cost around 2.5 million as he's out of contract. ManU are sniffing round him aswell.
I'd look at Scott Parker. I know most don't rate him but I've seen him play loads of times and think he's a good player. I think you'd get for about 6 million.
SWP would probably cost an arm and a leg. If they could be persuaded to take 11 million I'd take him. If not I'd take Pennant for about 4 million from Arsenal. This is probably the more likely scenario.
We'd need a defender.
Ledley King. I'd go to a maximum of 15 million and build my defence around him. A lot don't rate him but I do.
Total likely cost: Morietes 10 million.
Earnshaw 4 million.
Graveson 2.5 million.
Parker 6 million.
King 15 million.
total 37.5 million.
You would have three cast iron first-team regulars out of that. King, Parker/Graveson, Morientes/Earnshaw.
There, I'm ther to be shot at. Bring it on. And I'm not saying Earnshaw is better than Morientes either.
