I am not surprised about Man Utd have been sniffing around, you can see why cos he is very good player.

yeah he is a good player who happens to play for everton, i guarantee he will still be playin for us next season aswell!!

tommy grav is settled and is one of the fan faves, he said he wants bigger things and possibly europe to tempt him to stay and without tempting fate i think thats a big possibility this season!

hey he can join kewell and they can be everton buddies

It is foolhardy to believe that we will get £40m for Gerrard. I think, being realistic, £30m to £35m wouls be more realistic, unless Gerrard finds last season's form from now until the end of the season and also shine all the time for England and Chelsea finish second again and just lost the CL finals that they are so desparate to sign him for that amount.

Don't forget that the transfer market is still somewhat depressed. In a transfer market scenario like 2 years ago, if he displayed his form like last season, £40m would be about it.

AT the very worse,if, that's if we dun qualify for the CL final stage, will SG leave? Probabilities are high. I wouldn't sell if he doesn't want to leave. But if SG claims that prospects elsewhere is better than lets give away and get 35mil.

Stu made a point where the sacrifice of one player for the strength on other areas. I agree with him on the point but not the player, SG, that's on the line. I would have done so earlier with Owen. Not SG. There are not many players out there of SG's class(though not world class yet), technic and passion. It'll be great that we have possession of such a rarity. If I was rafa, I would be delighted to have a midfield where SG is in.

Come when the window opens, we will need funds from our boards to get some players. Defense, midfield and striker. One each. We should sell those that are of no real use like Diao and Diouf, Cheyrou, Vignal, Diarra. This would get us 10mil (max) @ 2mil each. Will get useful replacements in def and midfield into our 1st team squad. Our board will have to shell out a bomb for a top class striker.

Defender : Marchena from Valencia. He was signed in 2001 for 4 years. So its ending soon. Anyone knows if he plans to extend. If not I think he will be good. 3mil? Else how 'bout Mellberg?

Midfield : With 7 mil, I leave it up to you people to decide. A good attacking midfield with 2 good feet and great support play will do. Wouldn't mind Gravesson, SWP, Andrés Iniesta, Malbranque... etc RECALL ALT back?

Striker : Max 12mil from the board I guess. Morientes is doubtful, not in his skills but his interest in coming over. Gilardino, Fernando Torres, Savo Milosevic, Tevez... Still dreaming about Shevchenko. :p

I know most of ya would prefer someone of British influence. But I don't see any strikers that are best and available for our purchase. Would love Shearer or Beattie or JDF, but dun think we can have 'em. Earnshaw, doubtful, as good as Baros at most, and I'll put Baros potential deeper than his. So I guess the striker we will have to look elsewhere.

That Van Bommel is a class act luv him to come to us, very high work rate, what a player  .
We need someone like him proper work horse giving it everything for the full 90 mins.
There is no-one anywhere in the world at any stage who is any bigger or any better than this football club.

So let me recap, we are still discussing selling Gerrard, and replacing him with any of the following: (Pick your favourites and make up a transfer fee for them)

Duff : Not a central midfielder, would love him but I dont see it

Parker : Over hyped, over paid, over rated, lightweight

Angel : Half a good season for Villa and he is suddenly world calss ? do me a favour

King : failed centre half in the middle of the park ? No thanks

Malbranque : I have seen enough french half wits at this club, no way, never

SWP : Arsenal will be picking him up if he leaves City, good, but will soon be found out

I am laughing my t1ts off at this thread all day in work, keep it coming people.....

:D

Leon: Stu claims I'm "overcomplicating" the matter of how he intends to spend his Stevie Gerrard money by my trying to raise the point that all of these guys who he wants to sign with the Gerrard money won't exactly play for free.

We'd all love Duff, but any savings made by getting Gerrard off the wage bill would be automatically wiped out by Duff's wages. Duff is on slightly more a week than Gerrard at the moment, he's playing fantastically well and is a few years off his peak yet. So why should he come here and get less money than he gets at Chelsea?

Parker is over rated, SWP is a flash in the pan, and its a while since we have seen the best from Malbranque, who may or may not be better than Nunez and Garcia. I like Angell a lot and I think he is the kind of option we need up front, but he's 29, is injury prone, and jets off to South America for international matches once every six weeks.

I still say: keep Gerrard, try to work on the existing players who want to stay here and are prepared to scrap, try and get rid of as much of the dead wood as possible and then slowly add to the side over the next two or three seasons by being very selective in the transfer market.
