Benjamin Sesko: Newcastle United submit improved £78m bid for striker
Club return with second offer for RB Leipzig’s Slovenian striker, who is also wanted by Manchester United, after first bid was rejected

Newcastle United have submitted an improved bid for Benjamin Sesko which could reach about £78million.
After the first offer of €75million (about £65million) plus €5million in add-ons was rejected by RB Leipzig, Newcastle have increased their bid to €80million plus €10million in add-ons.
The Slovenia striker has attracted the interest of several clubs during recent months. At first Arsenal were in talks with Sesko, but the north London side eventually opted for Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.
At present both Newcastle and Manchester United are pursuing Sesko and both clubs have been in talks with Leipzig to negotiate a transfer fee. Newcastle’s latest offer is their attempt to get ahead of their Premier League rivals.
Sesko was absent from Leipzig’s pre-season friendly loss to Atalanta on Saturday due to his expected departure. The striker has told some of his team-mates that he is determined to leave.
Newcastle missed out on Hugo Ekitike this summer as the former Eintracht Frankfurt striker decided to join Liverpool instead. Meanwhile, Liverpool are still pursuing Newcastle’s striker Alexander Isak, who was left out of Eddie Howe’s squad for Newcastle’s Asia tour with what the club described as a “minor” thigh issue.
However, Isak trained alone at his former club Real Sociedad, which Howe only found out through the media. Isak has since returned to Newcastle.
Manchester United’s interest in Sesko throws into question Rasmus Hojlund’s future at the club. While the Denmark striker wants to fight for his spot in Ruben Amorim’s starting XI, United are willing to listen to offers.
One possible suitor could be Leipzig, who are looking for at least one new striker in light of Sesko’s expected departure. The Bundesliga side would prefer a loan deal for Hojlund.
