Liverpool Football Club - The Rumour Mill

Looks like Frimpong move is happening for £30m, Sky Sports reporting his medical is happening today in Liverpool.
“You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.”

Nunez and Jota have been abysmal this season so that’s the area we have biggest room for upgrade I think. It’s worth spending big on that position definitely.

Left back needs upgrading too. Personally I like Ait Nouri but looks like it’ll be Kerkez or Hato, but all good players so no problem with any of those.

My main concern is actually Konate. Love him but can’t let him run down this last year of the contract like Trent. If he won’t extend now we need to sell on my opinion and replace him now. Not sure who’s ready to step in. I don’t think Huijsen is the one for now I have doubts. Personally would go for Branthwaite but that’s a complicated one haha!

Is that Nouri the Wolves LB, if so i like him a lot, he's got great feet. Branthwaite would be another terrific signing as well but i'll be astonished if the lad is willing to put up with all the inevitable nonsence that would be heading his way if he decided to cross the park, a few have done it over the years though so you never know. United were heavily linked with him a while back so we could probably do with tottenham doing us a favour and making sure they havent got the carrot of CL football to offer the lad if they do make a move for him in the summer.

Yes mate the Wolves left back. Think he’s quality. But as I type it looks like big Fabrizio the tap in merchant Romano says Kerkez is close. Kerkez is another runner like Frimpong. Both quality but in different ways to Nouri who’s more technical. At least we wouldn’t lose Kerkez to Afcon!

These Wirtz rumours are wild. I refuse to believe them. But what a player he is. Reminds me so much of a young Zidane.

I guess we have to keep hold of Smokey Joe Gomez as cover for Konate. I hope the club are pressuring him to sign a new contract...

Need to cash in on players and show some courage to bring in new lads however I'm not sure I like the galactico values the press are talking about.. £125 million for Wirst etc..
I know Brian Clough broke the transfer record to bring in Trevor Frances and we paid a record fee for Kenny however the current values are insane.

I remember the Trevor Francis deal, he was the first million pound man and that was about 45 years ago so if you add inflation, today’s prices are so much higher but when you factor in the price of tickets now, tv money and how much they make in sponsorship then those prices are probably about right.

Transfer fees have gone through the roof but so has revenue.

What's with all these youtube channels saying Wirtz has agreed to sign for us. Is there any substance to these rumours or is it all BS. Trying not to get too excited here but it's hard not to.

Apparently he's turned down a move to Bayern, so it's either us or he stays at Leverkusen. I say that but Alonso is going to Madrid, so Wirtz could follow him there.

I think Frimpong and Wirtz are quite close friends, and both were out injured for a long time with each other.. that could play a huge factor in Wirtz decision.

I'm salivating at the thought ! Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz added to our squad  :wwww
I'd be putting a big wedge on us winning the league again next term  :buttrock

Thought it was just press talk but apparently we're very serious about Wirtz. Great player but I'm not sure about spending so much money on a single player, any player. I probably said the same thing before we signed van Dijk though.

He is something like 22 so it seems like  this is the kind of player they spend on. If the transfer team see something in him I’d bet he’d become world class and worth the money. What I read about his personality is he is a leader and a good character. We’ve kept our powder dry the last season and certainly will have the budget for it.

Spending big money on a single player is a risk but those players tend to be the difference makers, when we signed Virgil and Ally we broke the world record paid for a defender and a keeper but they absolutely transformed us, we've spent the last 7-8 years since we signed them challenging for league titles and CL's.
Wirtz is so good if we have the opportunity to sign him we have to go for it, we have to, even if it doesnt work out no one is going to pan or blame the club for attempting to reach for the stars - figuratively and literally.

Have to agree that Wirtz is a ‘needle mover’ in the same way Virgil and Alisson were. Definitely worth the outlay I think.

Bayern and City were chasing him all season til we stepped in so it’s a big statement that we mean business.

Looking like Frimpong, Wirtz and probably Kerkez all close. I’ll take that. A centre forward and a centre back and we’re set in my opinion. Although interesting to see the plan for Wirtz as he could be being bought to play the false 9, in which case we might not spend big on a 9.

The impression Arne Slot left on Florian Wirtz was unlike anything he had experienced before. Throughout multiple Zoom meetings, Slot presented a clear and detailed vision, supported by extensive video material that even traced Wirtz’s development back to his early youth. He highlighted the progress Wirtz had already made, pointed out areas for further improvement, and laid out a well-structured plan for how he would be integrated into the team.
What resonated most was the tactical clarity. Wirtz was shown a defined role within a functioning system, giving him a strong sense of direction and purpose. The entire presentations, which were many, were described as highly professional and deeply thoughtful.
In contrast, the conversations he had with Vincent Kompany were said to be vague and left many questions unanswered. There was no clearly communicated role, no coherent system, and little tactical structure. The overall impression was that of uncertainty, which reportedly left Wirtz feeling confused and unimpressed.

Extremely interesting post Kazza. Can I be nosy and ask where you managed to find such detailed information? Hopefully it wasn’t the daily fail !! lOn a serious note if that is an indication of how Arne Slot prepares then the future looks extremely bright. However, I’m not sure that I’m happy with such detailed information going into the public domain. The Vincent Kompany’s  of the football world probably take far too much for granted simply because of the status of the club they manage.
Net Spend Over The Last 5 Years 20/21 to 24/25  (10 years
are in brackets 15/16 to 24/25 )
LFC €300m (€420m)
Everton +€33m (€211m)
Arsenal €557m (€853m)
Spurs €571m (€684m)
Chelsea €945m (€1051m)
Man City €370m (€1038m)
Man United €687m (€1240m)

Of course it could be cr@p as I found it somewhere online, I think a Facebook link  :Oo:

I did read in a couple of places that Slot contacted the player himself so it just made sense it was correct but no guarantee.

Finding the truth online is like fishing, it’s hit and miss.
